| I first did this WOL about 4 years ago and I smoked back then and I lost about 22 lbs. I weighed 155 to start and when I was done(went of the wagon), I was at 133. So for my personal experience it did not effect my weight loss. |

| I don't think smoking would hamper losing weight, it reves up your metabolism. Most people lose when they start, and gain weight when they quit. I know I did (gained), quite a lot in fact. Once you quit your metabolism slows down, and to make things worse, food tastes so much better! |

| I actually know what you are talking about. I have read somewhere that smoking actually causes a spike in your insulin production...something like that. I have to find it and let you know exactly, but yes, they have said it can effect weight loss. I will still lose, but definately not as fast. Hope this helps!

| Okay...Sugar is actually an additive in cigs, especially Marlboros... http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache...gl=us&ie=UTF-8 This next site really explains how and why it supresses your appetite and why you gain when you quit. http://whyquit.com/joel/Joel_03_21_blood_sugar.html Initially yes, you will lose but over time...you can actually begin to gain weight after smoking for a long time. http://www.articles2k.com/article/27...d_Weight_Loss/ I hope this helps! I know after reading all this, I am quitting..LOL

| The first time I was on Atkins I smoked alot and it never halted my weight loss. I am no longer a smoker but when I was it did not effect my weight loss. |
