| He should probably see a doctor...pain in that area just doesn't seem like one of those things that it is safe to speculate on what might be the problem. Did he have a physical exam before starting Atkins? Does he have a preexisting renal problem? Atkins is not known for causing problems in that area, however, it can exacerbate any preexisting conditions. So, rather than try to guess what it is...he should really see a doctor. ~Far la bella figura!

| No upping the carb levels doesn't have any affect on the kidneys. Is he following the induction plan, and eating his 3 cups of veggies? I would agree that if he's having a problem, he should see a dr. There should be no kidney pain.

| Agreed, what Sadie & Jace said. In any case, it shouldn't hurt at all to increase plain water intake. I don't profess to give medical advice, however, I have heard of chronic dehydration or drinking too much soda both being culprits involved in renal troubles. There are probably far more possible causes for your pain, that only tests/exams can diagnose.
