Exclamation Gotta re-boot the system

Hi All. Today I'm on my 3rd day of re-booting to this WOE/WOL. Last week was the pre-time of the month-week. I Knew it was, because I had a lot of cravings, like when I went in the grocery I was looking and drooling at things I'm usually not interested in, like big fluffy muffins and such. Anyway between March 1 and March 27 or so I had lost 16 pounds. I have not weighed since about 7 days ago, because during this time of the month I usually gain 3-4 pounds. I knew I would stress over it if I saw a weight gain, even though I was sticking to the plan.

Problem is, over the weekend I ate lots of stuff I wish I hadn't, like a brownie with caramel topping, cookies (2 big ones), Mexican food (i.e. corn tortillas with a little rice and beans, just a little won't hurt, right) and the Grand Finale, two scoops of Baskin Robbins ice cream with a waffle cone.

I am not sure why this occurred. After 2 weeks of induction I think I just kept doing induction. It was working for me. But, even though I LIKE the foods I was eating, maybe I got a little bored? I just don't know. I was definitely not hungry. I did not really have cravings until the weekend. I just thought, one brownie won't hurt. The next day it was, okay a couple of these cookies. Then it was out for brunch with a friend and okay tortillas, rice and beans, those are good healthy foods. Just kidding myself, I thought, okay, I've blown it now I might as well have ICE CREAM my longest and most well rooted addiction.

I know for sure that I eat for emotional reasons (yes I had extra stress), and I reward myself with food (I'd been really successful at losing so far), and I eat when I'm bored (but I think it was the repetitive menu choices I was bored with because there's lots of cool goings-on in life right now).

Assuming I have not gained back any pounds, that I've maintained the 16 pound loss, then I still have 34 more pounds to lose. My motivation is high, I feel confident, I don't feel like there is any hidden agenda of sabotaging myself. I just wonder if my approach should change. I don't plan to weigh myself again for about another week.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I just kind of winged-it on the induction, from what I had read on this board. Stuck to the food list. My biggest challenge is breakfast. I love breakfast, I wake up hungry for it. I don't think I want to eat 2 boiled eggs, 12 cashews, and an ounce of cheese every day anymore. That's one thing I need to change.

So should I write down what I eat for the next three days? I typically eat very similar every day. I'm not into the shopping for everything you need to have a different meal every day kind of thing. I'm really into kitchen shorthand. I tend to want FOOD not snacks. I find that anything sweet or psuedo-sweet tends to wake up the desire for stuff I shouldn't have. Just keeping the sweet taste out of my mouth entirely works best for me.

Anyway, thanks for tuning in. It has helped me to write all this down. I hope I posted it on the right forum. I really needed to get back in here and look at the inspiring pictures, especially sally seachange. Your before picture looks similar to me about 20 pounds ago, and I look forward to the re-emergence of my athletic form once I get the next 36 or 36+ pounds off my frame. My time to do internet stuff is limited so I really appreciate having this board to check in with.

Thanks again

Now I'm curious to see your before and afters!

You mentioned that you winged induction. I think it would be good, if you already haven't, to get hold of the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - 2002 edition). It's motivating, and to completely understand the science behind this way of eating is paramount. A big help in preventing falls from the wagon.

If you eat when you're bored, then try to get active when a craving hits. Go for a walk, or get stuck into some kind of job, chore, hobby... Apart from getting useful stuff done, you'll probably find it takes your mind off food and you won't cave.

Congrats on your losses so far!

I am a beginner myself so I feel I can't help so much with your menu. But concerning the breakfast I want to tell you that I had the same problem with the eggs. It turned out to be boring and I got kind of sick of it. I had the feeling that I didn't want more egg att all.

It helped me to become more flexibel. For exampel, eat an omlett with 2 eggs, shrimps and dill. Or salmon instead of shrimps. You can have fried egg with bacon, one tomato and a few fresh onion rings. Or you take two boiled eggs and mix them with 1 can of tuna, some cheese, 1 cup sallad, olivoil and spices like lemonpepper (watch out for a sugarfree kind). Just keep in mind to count the vegetables.

It worked for me, as this kind of brekfast is much more satisfying and gives enough energy to make it until lunch. It's just not that focused on the eggs.

Keep going, you'll make it through induction!

Redfoxglove....

Try this link hon, all kinds of variety here for you.......

Also, READ your book, if you were eating cashews, you weren't on induction.

Believe me, I hear what you're saying, I started at Christmas with 1 cookie. 6 weeks later and 14 pounds heavier.....I knew the insanity had to stop. I was out of control. I've lost it all plus some and refocused! Stop in at the Second Time Around Club, we can find out why you went astray, and what might have triggered it.

With Linda's site (above) there are so many induction legal recipes and things to look forward to as you climb the rungs!!

Best of luck!

I love the "reboot" analogy. I'm rebooting too right now. Back to basics, clean everything up and then move on.

I have a question for you. Do you want to be successful? Do you want goal?

Because if you do, we have the answer. The book. Read it, follow it and you'll be at goal in no time at all. Do your 2 week induction, then move IMMEDIATELY into OWL and start adding foods back in. You can HAVE all that stuff you are wanting if you learn how to add it back in.

Hi Red! Welcome to the board. Has anyone told you about www.fitday.com? It's a place where you can log all your food intake and keep track of protein/carbs/fat. I would suggest buying the book, while the board has a wealth of information, the book will become your best friend for life!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your caring comments to my crisis mode!! I shall go immediately this afternoon to get the book. And READ IT.

I maintained my weight loss and lost 3 more lbs. to boot. Making total weight loss since March 1, 19 pounds. I could not be more thrilled!

Over Easter weekend I actually did pretty good. Had one thing that wasn't on the plan. Got right back to the plan today.

I have 29 more pounds to go to reach my first goal of 160. When I get there, I will know if I need to go down more. I feel great about my success so far. And am thankful for all of your support.

Thank you, Elizellen. It feels good to be acknowledged. Your pictures show your success story. I often wonder if 160 is my first target or my final target weight. I see you are an inch taller than me but your target is 130. I try not to "get ahead of myself" with worrying about what weight will be my final. I try to stay focused on today. But it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities!

People at work have been complimenting my weight loss, and those who haven't seen me in a while are really surprised. It feels nice to be noticed for something positive.

Thanks for your support.
