Default Ketotis - what color should we be aim for/

Hi there,
I am on day four and down four pounds on Atkins - yeah! AND, I am using the Ketosis Stix to see where I am in the process. Is there a particular place we ought to be aiming for? I show that I have traces of Ketosis - do I want to be in heavy Ketosis? I guess I am just in Ketosis confusion.

Thanks!!

I wouldn't aim for anything but a color change. The amount of ketones in your body doesn't really indicate anything other than the fact you are in ketosis. If it changes at all, you're in good shape. You may find yourself obsessing unnecessarily... I personally don't like those things. They're pretty unreliable and don't have much of a shelf life. Best of luck!

Hi Cathy,

HEre's some good information on Ketosis. It's really the whole basis for this way of eating. So if you haven't read the book, I'd highly recommend it as it'll really help you understand why we do the things we do. In the meantime, you can find some info here...

The sticks can only answer a binary yes or no question. They can only tell if the ketones are present.

So the color doesn't really matter.

Though IMO the sticks are overrated. Just follow the plan by the book and drink your water and everything will work out.

I agree; any change in color will do, as it merely indicates the presence of ketones in your urine.

The color might depend on the time of day, how much of the ketones your body is using, etc. But any color will do!

FWIW, I have never bought the sticks, and have been successful in losing weight. Follow the plan and you'll be set.
