Default Need some serious help!

Ok, first of all, whatever I am doing is working because I have lost 4lbs in 2 days.....but....I have a feeling I'm doing it wrong, ie. eating too many veggies!

So, how do you guys go about getting your 12-15 grams of carbs from veggies when the carbs in the veggies we are allowed to eat in induction are SO low.

For example, we are allowed 2 cups of "salad" veggies and 1 cup of "other" veggies.

So say one day I decide to have 1 cup of romaine lettuce and 1 cup of mushrooms as my salad veggies, and then 1 cup of asparagus as my other veggie.
The lettuce would equal - 0.4 net carbs
Mushrooms - 2.4
Asparagus - 4.8
For a grand total of 7.6

So, say I didn't want lettuce that day since it's not that nutritional etc etc...and I added a different salad veggie instead:
Cucumber - 2.0
Mushrooms - 2.4
Asparagus - 4.8
Total - 9.2

Neither are close to the 12 -15 grams.............so if we are only allowed 3 cups of veggies each day, and they are these limited induction veggies, how do you get the 12-15 grams? Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm extremely confused...it could be the more I think about it the more I'm confusing myself! I just can't see how you get the 12-15 grams without adding more veggies!

The 12-15 grams is an amount posted by the Atkins company (I think to try and make it clear that Atkins is not a 'no veg' way of eating), it doesnt appear in DANDR, which doesnt say any particular number of carbs for your veggies, just says to have 'most' of them from our vegetables.
Quote:
DANDR says

3. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see the list of acceptable vegetables
However as you are allowed up to 20 net carbs, the amount you consider to be 'most' of that number ought to be more than half, so 12-15 seems a fair estimate to aim for, to allow you some 'spare' carbs for your cheese and eggs etc.

The vegetable challenge on ADBB last month, http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=43113 (Are You Eaing Your Veggies? Challenge #1) has proved it is possible to choose higher-carb vegetables from the induction list and eat 12 net carbs, so you might gain some inspiration from reading through the posts there.
It is quite a long thread but contains some good info and hints on how to eat more veg carbs!!

Keep your veggies around 3 cups, distribute them wisely among your 3 meals, eat liberal amounts of meat, fish, eggs, 4 ounces of cheese and your veggies, be very, very full and don't sweat it. Just use your common sense.

Eat with a sense of joy and abundance and don't let any anxiety about doing it perfect spoil your fun. Even if you were going over your carbs by a tiny amount once in awhile, it isn't going to halt your progress.

The best part of Atkins is that we can drop all anal compulsions and just eat and be free. Relax - you can do this - no problemo.

I don't go over my carbs....but sometimes I eat more veggies on the "other" veggies list than on the "salad" veggies list because I don't know what half those veggies are! The only ones I really like off the salad veggies list are lettuce and peppers...and mushrooms but only if they're cooked. I like WAY more off the "other" veggies list. I'm not overweight to begin with so I don't have much to lose (maybe 10 pounds), and I used to eat tonnes of pasta and bread etc.....so even if I ate 30 carbs a day I'd probably still lose weight because it's such a shock to my system.

All the veggies on the "salad" list can be cooked--including the lettuces. In fact, NO where does it say you have to eat any of the veggies in the raw form. All it says is to measure the vegetables that "cook down significantly" before cooking.

Sounds like you're doing great to me and if your biggest problem is worrying about vegetables...then you're definitely eating more healthy than you were before, right? As the others said, make sure you control the portions during induction, but eating the 2 cups or 3 cups from the salad veggies can be any of those vegetables, so eat 'em up! Good job on the 4lbs so far!
