Default "on the go" food question.

Hi,

Today marks my 3rd day of induction, so far so good (i think). Anyhow, the next 3 days are my "problem" days as I work full time and go to school full time as well. I use public transportation and from work go directly to school until 9pm and am looking for ideas for "snacks" or something on the go that I can munch on between classes. I feel I'm limited to string cheese and am already quite bored with it. (boredom, is NOT a good sign, right?). Also, "on the go" dinner ideas would be helpful too as I usually don't eat after class for fear that food eaten after 9pm takes permanent residency in my midsection.
yikes.

Thanks!
Michelle

Don't worry about eating after a certain time at night. If you're hungry, it's best to eat. I've had no problems losing weight even if I eat late.

Finger foods: Pepperoni, cheese sticks, veggies cut into baggies with ranch dressing, beef jerky (homemade, not store bought!), hardboiled eggs.

Salads are probably the easiest on the go meals. Put them in a tupperware container and put all your ingredients in the bowl. Put dressing in a small snack baggie or plastic condiment container. You can also mix and match fats, veggies, and protein in any combination. Dinner doesn't have to be fancy! Choose foods you like off of the induction foods list and away you go!

I like the fact that the diet is boring... it means I eat only when I have to.

There was a time when I cooked gourmet and I might do it again, but for now I am focusing more on losing weight and having nutritious meals to make my body feel happy than my tongue to feel happy.

My motto: "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!"

Pack "real" meals in addition to 'snacks'. Real meals---protein, fat and veggie---will give you a greater feeling of satisfaction than a few cheese sticks.

I have the opposite experience as kawispice: I think Atkins is far from boring! All the high fat forbidden foods like full fat cheeses, butter, heavy cream, rich egg sauces like Hollandaise and bearnaise, 'bad for you animal proteins' like beef, and seafoods like shrimp are all legal. Plus 54 veggies on the foods list really make meals come alive for me.

My life is completely hectic - can't always cook like I should. You'll find the fast food restaurants that are 'friendly'. One of my favorites is the dollar menu at Mickey-Ds... the double cheeseburger - no ketchup, add mayo. (the sauteed onions are yummy) - Ill take the bun off and eat the two burgers. They also have a Cobb salad, which is nice - eggs, bacon, blue cheese and chicken.

I find Atkins far from boring. In fact, eating Atkins food is really like eating in a 5 Star restaurant. Starches and fillers are cheap, filet mignon and butternut puree are NOT.

Michelle, once you move to OWL things will get easier--you'll have more food options to help you out in a bind.

Hey, Michelle.

Julie and I just talked about using ziploc bags for making/carrying/eating foods this week, and I just had to suggest that one.

Putting you veggies, meats, cheese, and dressings (anything else you want to add) in a ziploc and shake; or just allow the nature of movement around the bus in your bag or cooler to do it for you! And...viola'! You've got a great handy meal in a bag

Using ziplocs for just about everything is a new game for me...LOL...I'm easily amused.

One thing I learned from my experience this past weekend while I had a yard sale and ate my salad during the course of the time....use a plastic fork or be REALLY carefull with the real thing!

Have fun playing with your food!

oooh, thanks for all of your ideas! i'll certainly be trying that ziploc bag dinner. i'm only on my 3rd day so i'm relatively new to pizzazzing of low carb meals. i've been gathering a some recipes though and hopefully next week will be easier. right now i am currently stuck in the "boring" state of mind but reading all the low carb reciepes actually has me hungry!! unfortunately, i'll have to stick it through until the wkend as i've no market time in my schedule this week!!

again, thanks!!
