Default Day 2 of Induction and a bit confused

I'm a newbie to this site and to Atkins. For the past year or so, I was counting points with WW. Over the past year, I've lost 25 lbs (240/215), but came to a stand still with WW...gain 1.2, lose 1.4, gain 1.2...got me rather because I was following the plan exactly. I happened upon the book Atkins for Life and liked the sound of it especially since it mentions PCOS and prediabetes. Both of which I have.

With Atkins, I understand the basics (have the New Diet Rev & Atkins Essentials books), but confused about the 20 Net Carbs during induction. From my understanding, I eat all the meat and eggs I want. Also, I'm allowed 4 oz of cheese. 3 cups of veggies and possibly diet drinks (splenda sweetened), salad dressing, etc. I'm confused about what I count in the net carbs...do I count the Net carbs in the eggs, veggies, etc in the 20 g?

Thanks!

Hi Polkadot!
Welcome to ADBB!! You count all carbs towards the 20 grams of carbs per day. I believe you are supposed to have at least 15 of them from vegetables. If you go to www.fitday.com and set up an account there (for free) and enter whatever you eat in there it will show you how many carbs you have consumed. Don't forget to subtract the fiber grams total from the carbohydrate grams total to get your net carbs for the day! Good Luck with your induction!!

YEs, as Joanne said - you count the carbs in everything you eat towards your maximim 20 net carbs on induction!
Remember Dr Atkins told us to count one carb for each of the up to 3 servings of sweetener we are allowed, and one carb per ounce of cheese no matter what the actual carbs in it are too.

Thanks...I have started a fitday account, but I still feel like I may be eating too many veggies. I measure and add to my food list. I ate a very big salad for lunch today...according to fitday (subtracting the fiber), I'm only at 9 net carbs. The salad consisted of lettuce, radishes, alfalfa sprouts, cucumbers, mushrooms, and cheese with some meat. I feel as if I'm eating too much since I've read over and over about the 3 cups of veggies.

I'm loving this Atkins though...the scales show almost 7 lbs gone since last Wednesday when I weighed in at WW and decided to change plans!

Hi Polkadots,

For Inducation, you need to adjust your acceptable veggie quantities to 3 cups a day, they are limited during Induction...those carbs along with the others from cheese, eggs, dressing, etc. work toward the 20 max carbs.

You don't have to hit 20 carbs a day.

Good luck!

I see...so it's 3 cups regardless of whether or not you hit 20 net carbs. Thanks for clarifying that! I actually haven't been eating 20g a day I don't think. I think of myself as a rather intelligent person but this is a bit hard to catch on to!

Yes... three cups a day only during induction. If this doesn't seem enough to you then after your fourteen days induction, move to OWL rung one. You can stay there for a long time, if you like and add veggies to your heart's content.
