Default Frustrated! Husband losing, I'm not

I am new to this board. Started reading it earlier today, now I'm hooked. I am quite familiar with Atkins simply because I have a degree in Health and my dad lost quite a bit of weight on the "diet". Actually, Atkins allowed him to drop his BP and glucose meds!
My husband and I have just completed Day 9 of the Induction phase and I haven't lost a pound! However, he has lost 6-7 lbs. We are eating the exact same foods with no cheats. (Funny, how days 1-2 were SO hard, now it's so easy.) We are eating scrambled eggs and sausage EVERY morning, a meat and cheese lunch and small salad (no dressing) with meat for dinner.
I simply want to get off 10 lbs. I am 5'4, and weigh 124 lbs. I understand I am not obese, but just clothes fitting better is my goal. Please tell me if I am doing anything wrong.
Also, we have ketostix. My husband has been in moderate/heavy ketosis since Day 4. I have bounced from "negative" to "trace" and back.
Any advice and/or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

hello and welcome to the board. this is a great place for support and information. i know how you feel about hubby losing more than you, my hubby always does lose more than me too alot of the times we've done diets together. it's frustrating, but i just try to look at it like the more he loses the healthier he is getting, so it doesn't bother me so bad.

from what you posted as far as food, it looks like you might need to add more induction legal veggies, if you are only eating a small salad for dinner. veggies are important in this woe because of the vitamins they have and also they have fiber which is also essential .

you may want to post some sample menus so that some of the more knowledgeable atkineers can take a look at it. they could maybe give you a little more insight.

another very important thing is how much water are you drinking daily? you need to drink plenty of water also.

Thumbs up Re: Frustrated! Husband losing, I'm not

Hello and welcome to the board! You may want to post your daily food intake in at www.fitday.com. It will help you keep track of your daily food intake and stay on track.Your daily food ratio should be,Fat: 65%, Protein:30%, and Carbs: 5%.And like moniegail suggested, drinking lots and lots of water is key. If you drink caffein, that may be the culprit in your stall. You're allowed more vegies that a small salad at night. Do you have Dr. Atkins Book? It would really help guide you through each phase of this way of eating(WOE) and can answer any questions you may have along the way. Again, welcome! Post often and let us know how you and your husband are doing. There is always someone here to support you and answer questions along your way. Also ,have you checked out the induction thread? that may answer a few things for you too. Best of health to you and yours.

Hi, I agree with the others regarding menu posting and veggie intake etc:
Also, I've never used the stix, but it my understanding that if you *are* drinking large quantities of water, this will show up as a 'diluted' result.
In the book it tells us during induction we should expect to lose 10-15% of the weight we wish to lose. This would equate to 1 - 1.5lbs for the 14 days for you
Men always seem to have it so easy with weightloss! lol

How are you feeling on this WOE? Are your clothes getting any looser? Those people with 10-20 pounds to lose need to take those into consideration as they are not likely to see the large losses the heavyweights tend to lose in the initial stages.

A 'normal' weightloss in the first 14 days is about 5%-10% of what you hope to lose, so half a poundwould be 'normal' for you

Wow - thanks guys for all the fast answers! This is a fabulous support system here. I just ordered DANRD Saturday so hopefully that will pave my path. There's obviously much more to it than just cutting to less than 20 carbs a day.
I am drinking a ton of water. We have one of those Abita Springs water coolers in the house, so drinking lots is easy... plus my husband and I have always been water drinkers. I think it's my diet. I have been hesitant to eat veggies. I will eat maybe 1/2 cup of broccoli & cheese here & there, but that's been it. I am anxious to get my book and check out other legal veggies & portion sizes.

Here is a sample of my daily menu:
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 Little Sizzlers sausage link
Lunch: several slices of roast beef topped with pepperjack cheese, few pork rinds
Snack somtimes: piece of string cheese
Dinner: chicken breast, pork loin, or hamburger patty & small side salad

I may not be losing weight, but I am SO proud of my husband. He was eating fast food everyday. It's easier for me to eat healthy as I stay home with my toddler twin girls. Also, I have read that on here that sugar-free jello is ok, but not good for the initial induction phase. Is this correct?

I GREATLY appreciate everyone's time in reading and responding to my post. It has been a great motivator looking at everyone's pics & stats. Talk about some disciplined people! *kudos* =)

Proportions are also important, at your weight and height you need much fewer calories daily than your husband does. And then we also have estrogen to deal with, it slows down weight loss for us.

So it's a lot like Ginger Rogers said, "I do everything Fred does, except I do it backwards and in stilettoes"... ah, the unfairness sometimes of being a female....

DO NOT compare your loss with your husbands. It will make you insane. They lose at a crazy fast rate compared to women. Keep up what your doing and tweek your menu for better results as suggested. Slow loss is better than no loss, and much better than gain.

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading for a week now, starting my second week of induction along with my boyfriend. We checked our ketones today and I was in the low and he was the next one up. I do believe that men lose easier than women. I probably have 60+ pounds to lose on a 5 feet body. Do I need to be concerned with calories? it was my understanding that I just had to watch the carbs which have been 20 grams or less every day since last Monday. The only "cheat" we've done is have a few vodka sodas on the 4th, which I understand may "stall". I also have been drinking a ton of water, soda water. My cravings are really not there, and other foods haven't really tempted me, so I guess that is good. I am just now interested in the calorie counting, since I hadn't been doing that, just counting the carbs. Thanks and congrats to all of you that have done well...I am really trying hard.
