Exclamation I need to know what I am doing wrong

I have been on and off of atkins a few times and it is hard for me to stick
Because I know that only this diet works for me I ttried to make it snappy by limiting the amount of calories to 1200-1500 and 20 carbs but my ketone strips stay in the no ketone detected area and I am loosing my mind the only thing I can think of is that I have been drinking sugar free red bull and rock star because I work the noc shift (nursing overnight) and I need the energy to stay up, also I have been supplementing with atkins advantage shakes only one meal though I will also have an occasional bar PLEASE WHAT AM I DOING WRONG I STAY WITHIN MY CARBS AND VEG MAX OF 2cups lettuce and 1 cup greens I am so stressed because last year I did atkins and was in the purple after day 3 and throut the diet and reached 170 from 230 in no time(31/2 months) I am now 196.8 am scared I do not want to back to my start weight WHAT CAN I DO?

It's the atkins bars, the red bull and the rock star. As I recall a while back someone else here on the induction boards was using the bars as a supplement and she went into a stand still weight wise. More than likely its the rockstar and redbull as well. Usually on induction.

Quote:
Acceptable Beverages
Be sure to drink a minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day, including:

Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water
Additionally, you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

She's right, that was what caused me 6 weeks of a stalll...sugar alcohols...stay away from them in induction, it's hard at first, but if you really want to lose weight, you can do it.

Red bull is LOADED with caffeine which will dehydrate you BIG TIME. YOur body will react by hanging onto every little bit of water you give it afterwards so no doubt you are carrying a lot of water weight. Once you get into the hang of things you should not need to have Caffeine drinks to keep you awake. Its something that you have probably become addicted to overtime and its hard to kick the habit. The bars have been known to stall weight loss too ( these are a big no no and devised by the atkins center after Dr A passed away and unfortunately they are out to make money and dont really care if they stall your weight loss efforts)

Try to remove these things from your diet and i bet you will see the scales start to move in a positive direction soon!
Goodluck!

Do not worry about your calories during Induction.. The important thing at that time is to get the sugars out of your system.. Later on when you find that you are having problems losing then you can look at the calories..

You ought to drop the caffiene as others have advised. And I would advise you to drop the ketostix! You are most likely in ketosis. See those strips only measure the excess ketones in the urine. Ketones can be used as an energy source by our bodies. Furthermore, urinary ketones only comprise about 20% of the ketones our bodies can produce. If you think about your nursing career, what do the docs measure for DKA patients? They might dip the urine for ketones, but they base their management on serum ketones, because they are a more reliable indicator of actual body ketone levels.

So save your money and ditch those stix.

Hi Gina,

I agree with what these guys have said. I also wanted to add that giving up caffiene can be really hard, and it seems like you are losing out on energy that you got from it - but ultimately you will have more energy overall as the high from caffiene is always followed by a slump later - creating a cycle. It is worth giving up and should really help with your stall too - I've certainly found this before.

Best of luck
