Default double question

hi everyone.. im coming back to atkins becuz im sick and tired of being sick and tired lol. ill type up my sob story some other time, but right now i have two questions... one is i found this recipe for eggplant lasagna and i was wondering if anyone knew if that was acceptable to eat in phase 1. these are the ingredients.

2 eggplants, peeled and cut into 3/4 inch slices
15 ounces ricotta cheese
8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup dried basil
4 cups pasta sauce

AND ALSO....

i saw the mainpage that says exercise is non negotiable and i completely agree, but my question is, im a runner. so running everyday is a good exercise for me using atkins way of life?

if anyone could get back to me asap id GREATLY appreciate it

angela.

Well, first you are allowed only 3 oz of cheese a day during induction. Second, you may want to plug-in these numbers into fitday.com or so and check your total carbs intake. In average, 1oz cheese = 1 carb. You have in this a total of 27 carbs from cheese alone.

Here are the numbers,

2 eggplants = 56 carbs
cheese = 27 carbs
1 egg = 1 carb
basil =~ 10 carbs
4 cups pasta sauce =~ 100 carbs

This is close to 200 carbs! Which means you need to make about 10 servings of this and take only one serving a day and nothing else for the rest of the day. I don't think this is suitable to induction at all. I may be mistaken, but for me, I would look for another recipe. Try http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/ for more induction friendly recipes.

As for the exercise.. Running is a perfect .

Welcome to the board.

Hiya Angela and welcome! Good to have you with us and it's great that you started before the various festivities. This way you won't have those extra holiday lbs to lose!!

You have to wait for the dairy rung of OWL for ricotta, but you can make a great parmigiana (similar to eggplant lasagna, but without the egg) with just mozzarella and parmesan.
Also, if you make a simple tomato sauce yourself (sauteed garlic in some olive oil, then added canned tomatoes, salt, cooked for ten/twenty mins) you'll be sure you won't have anything illegal in it.
Just layer the mozzarella slices (pre-fried or grilled) with the other ingredients, then bake for a half hour or so. Awesome!
Careful of portion sizes though... eggplant is quite carby.

Running is great for exercise!

Hi everybody,

This is my second time around. Want to start Induction. Have read and copied and pasted, trying to get refreshed. Want to get a grocery list and shop today. Went to Linda's site, a God send. I was wondering about bacon and sausage. Is this an item to get at our grocery store or health food store?

Sausage and bacon have nitrates etc. And bacon has sugar. Any suggestions on these items,

I remember too that I used "0" carb dressing and now I haven't seen those in quite some time in store, do you know a brand on these.

Thanks

Blessings,

Joy

There is too much cheese in this recipe. We are allowed during induction 3-4 oz of cheese a day. Also if ricotta is a fresh cheese its not allowed. And the pasta sauce more than likely has sugar in some form added and a ton of carbs.

yes running is still considered an acceptable exercise for the diet. Most people I think that start Atkins are either sedintary or mildly so, so for them to do somehtin gmore than cardio starting out might be pushing it a bit. I commend oyu on the running though. I wish my back could take it but then again I can barely sweep or mop without a muscle spasm. Hopefully the weightloss will stop that.

Sausage and bacons = i use turkey bacon unless i am out and about then i get regular pork bacon

Dressing = i had this concern the other day too. There is a brand called Ken's that has a few REALLY AWESOME dressings that are only 1 NET CARB, Walden Farms has 0 net carbs and Wishbone brand makes some salad spritzers <spary ons> that are 1 net carb per 10 sprays. To me thats a lot of dressing and OMG they have a variety of flavors and its tasty.

Honestly just being able to have bacon I just get what i want lol But don't get things like maple bacon as it will undoubtedly have sugar.

Just check the lable on the back to make sure which one is lowest in sugar and go with it. I just get Turkey Bacon. It seems to be cheaper but good.
