Default Day 5 Induction! My Experience, Notes..

Day 5 of induction!

So far I have been on the Flu rollercoaster.. I thought Id keep a running log of my experiences. I am 30/M...

Day 1 - Pretty tough, the worst was later in the day, felt almost like I was starving, yet I had just had a full protein , 5carb Meal.. Had that feeling like I went to long not eating..

Day 2 - Oddly enough, I actually slept decently, woke to sore muscles.. Felt like I ran a marathon the day before.. Felt much better after 20 oz of water and a hearty breakfast (2 Eggs, 2 Bacon, 1 cheese stick).. By lunch still had the aches and pains, and a sudden onset of really bad upset stomach + Runs to the bathroom. Through lunch (Cobb Salad /Blue Cheese dressing) - Still felt same, thru evening. (Advil Realllly helps, consider it!)

Day 3 - got a really good sleep, i was bouncing off the walls in the AM.. Ate breakfast and oddly enough it slowed me down some.. Still minor aches and pains, minor headache but not like before, continued with advil and it helps.. Also noticed I had some dizzyness and lightheadedness here and there.. I learned by eating something right after those dizzy/light headed spells (Quick Cheese snak or peice of meat) they faded away! Good little tip if you are having lots of those.. Also consuming 100oz of water daily.. Also picked up some " Ketostix" from the store to make sure I was in the proper state.. By end of day 3 felt good going to bed, seems much easier to get to sleep, and I seem to be sleeping deeper, Side effect ?

Day 4 - Woke up early, Did a test ketostix and noticed " Bright purple", I was on the right track! Also had a huge groggyhead for about an hour.. Ate and it cleared up.. Still had minor aches.. Also my legs felt like lumber logs as I ascended my stairs.. Wow, was not fun! Seemed like it took me a good 3 hours to wake up in the morning.. I have cut out all caffene, and boy is it killing me!

Day 5 (Today) - Woke ultra early, sprung right out of bed.. Still having issues waking up fully from sleep without caffene.. Ate my breakfast, and still was semi groggy.. From 6am Wake, took me till 9:30 am to feel fully awake.. Weighed myself in the early AM.. Dropped 8.5 Lbs so far..

So. Thats my journey so far.. My father lost 100 lbs on atkins and im hoping to duplicate it.. I got a lot to lose..

319/310.5/210 <-- I think I did this right.. Start Weight/Current Weight/Goal weight?

In conclusion, id like to hear from the people about caffene in the mornings if they are really deraling you from ketosis or not.. I really would like to awake from a stupor faster then 3+ hours..

Thanks!

Chris

after your 14 days you can try the caffeine and see how it effects you, a lot of people still drink it, some have a lot of problems with it, very few are okay, i personally have never drank coffee in my life so wouldnt know.

Its great to read your first 5 days, mine was completely different, i dont get the headache, no pains, no nothing, i guess that makes it the caffeine? who knows.

You will find that you wake up a lot earlier than usually after a couple of months, off atkins i need 8-10 hours sleep, on atkins 5-6 hours? and i dont have a groggy feeling,

Give it the full 14 days to see how you go, youve broke the addiction, now youve gotta break the habit.

It looks as if you are off to a good start
Well done on not deciding you 'need' carbs to get past the lightheadedness but eating a 'legal' snack instead!!

And onto Day 6!

Checked myself, lost another 1.4 Lbs.. Now at 309.1 Lbs! Yesterday was a real tough day! Learned you should NEVER go too far with too little food! Had a smaller then normal lunch and payed the price for it, luckily a more protein laden dinner cleared it up later in the evening.. Noticed the aches and pains are all but gone, some small quirky aches and pains are still lingering about in specific places..

Is there a point in time where the dizzy spells will reduce to nothing? Those are the things that annoy me the most.. Right now having none, but I really wish I did not have to worry about them

The dizziness usually comes from low blood sugar. Caffeine induces an insulin spike which then causes a blood sugar crash. Low blood sugar symptoms can be the dizziness, hunger/munchies, fatigue, foggy thinking, and crankiness. Since you're not ingesting caffeine, it could be something else causing it. Like artificially sweetened stuff. (Diet soda or anything with splenda/aspartame/sachharine) You didn't mention if you were having any of that. Sometimes its possible that drinking something artificially sweetened causes the same insulin response as the real stuff. When the insulin gets into your system, it gets busy grabbing up any blood sugar you've got there and transporting it into the cells. Because you don't have a lot of blood sugar there to begin with (due to lowcarb), this causes the low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). During induction, especially, it is my opinion that we'd be especially sensitive to this kind of stuff because our bodies aren't used to it.

Make sure that the carbohydrates you are getting (from Veggies, eggs, cream and cheese) are spread out through all of your meals. That's the best way to keep your blood sugar stable. And, just be aware of things that could be causing the insulin fluctuations.

Good For you!!

Today is Day 5 for me on Induction. My start weight is 145 and weighed myself 2 days ago and lost 3lbs. I know i've lost more in the past 2 days, just haven't weighed myself again yet, but I know caffeine so far is not affecting my weight loss..............now about caffeine.

I LOVE my caffeine too. I always had one in the am, lunch and at on my way home from work. I don't really want to give it up completely, however cutting down to just 1 cup I can handle since I'm not a HUGE drinker of it to begin with.

I have a coffee in the am, herbal teas throughout the day with nothing in them. Herbal teas are 0 everything so it's like drinking flavored hot water. It has really done the trick for me. I have 1 decaf on the way home just for that coffee flavor I so like. In my coffee I have 2 splenda each ( that's a total of 4 spenda's) and 2 TBSP of heavy cream. This stays within the Akins recommended amounts. Although the book says we should give it up...(addictions), it's not really one that I personally feel the need to give up (at least right now). As mentioned my weight loss is not being affected by it .....so far. For some however, it does affect them.

CHEERS TO YOU! Have you tried decafe???
