Default This is why I failed my induction...

I don't want anyone else to fail their first two weeks and waste time like I did so I am putting down some of the mistakes I made to maybe stop anyone else from doing the same things...

I was eating slim jims and thought because they are meat it would be ok. Don't eat any processed meats!!!!!!

I was drinking crystal light like crazy and letting it be a way for me to feed my sweet cravings. Very bad idea. You need to starve your sweet cravings and not feed them.

I was eating sugar free pudding and sugar free cool whip as a parfait. While it was VERY yummy it was high in carbs and not allowed in induction!!! Again, DO NOT feed your sweet cravings at all.

I was eating maple syrup on my sausages. Even though it was sugar free it still had a lot of carbs and I was once again feeding my sugar cravings and making the diet harder on myself.

I was eating salami and I guess there is a good chance because salami is processed there may be sugar in it. Just stay away from processed meats all together in my opinion.

I has sour cream on Christmas eve and it seemed to slow me down. I would stay away from sour cream during induction since it is only 2 weeks (unless you just can't help yourself and then you are only allowed to have 2 table spoons so make sure you don't think that it's like meats where you can eat as much as you want).

I wasn't drinking all of my water and to be honest and still having a hard time with that especially now that I can't have my crystal light, but I am working on it.

I was taking a multi vitamin and I am now and my leg cramps are gone, hopefully for good!

I really hadn't been counting my carbs and just assuming that if I was from the ok foods then I was fine. I was going waaaaaay over my 20 carbs each day and didn't even know it.

Those were my mistakes and why I failed. I hope this helps people to see that you can't half a** this diet.

Great Post, I love reading where people open up and show where they went wrong and why. It helps me and everyone else. We all are not 100% perfect 100% of time, we all make mistakes. The worst part is allowing my mistakes to tumble down and I get moving in the wrong direction. Way to show people the right way to do atkins!

Great post! I have failed Atkins so many times Ive just about lost track. Everytime I have restarted though Ive gone in with more knowledge. Knowing what makes you weak makes you stonger. My biggest downfalls are the frankenfoods. Some people can get by with them and be fine, others stall, me it just answers the sweet tooth calling.

Excellent post! I have done all those things to at one point (before I found this Board). Once you get rid of the processed food and known stallers it is amazing how well Atkins work. Are you re-doing your induction?

Default Re: This is why I failed my induction...

I am redoing my induction and started over on the 30th I was very sad to find out that I wasted all of that time and hard work but am proud of myself for not just giving up out of rebellion after that. I can be very rebelious

I have not lost any weight yet but I had 4 shots of Vodka on New Years Eve (even though I said that I wasn't going to) and so I know that I have to expect not to lose any weight for 3 days because of this I regret it but am still proud of myself for not eating any of the food at the party. You should have seen the spread they had! The only thing I was able to eat was the cheese. I would have eaten some of the guac (however you spell that) but it didn't sound good to me without a chip so I passed.

I found myself standing at a lot of tables filled with the yummiest foods ever over the passed 2 weeks just sitting there stairing at the food and having a converstation with it that goes something like this...
It's not fair it's christmas and you should eat, It's New Years Eve, you should enjoy yourself and eat what you want just today, I should just grab a peice of that bannana bread and throw it in my mouth when no one is watching, I have to have some of that chocolate, maybe I will go to the store and get an atkins candy bar (a staller for me so I can't have them). I don't really mind being fat, I still think that I look good (which is true but also is not true). I can't believe that I made it through all of the banquets over the holidays and so I know that I can do this because if I can do that, I can do anything!

I have learned that if you are going to a party it is a definite must to make your own atkins friendly appetizers to bring with you!!!! Plus I was thinking since I like the Jalapeno Poppers so much I am going to not make them unless I am going to a party so that they will remain a treat that I look forward to instead of allowing them to get old. Plus all of the cream cheese isn't the greatest on helping you lose your weight quickly so I think it's better treated as an occational treat instead of a regular part of your diet and the same goes for sour cream.

did everyone see my post about adding fake sugar to the cream cheese for the Poppers? MMmmmmm! I added 8 drops of Stevia to an 8oz thing of cream cheese and this made the poppers taste so much better!!! I love the sweet with hot thing like that. I baked just the poppers with the sour cream in them for 15 minutes and then added real bacon bits on top and baked for another 15 minutes. I liked this much better than when you wrap the bacon around the peppers, and it's easier. I made my own bacon bits because I was afraid to buy any meat that is in a container. I just baked the bacon until it was well done and then chopped it up. Next I am going to try the mushroom caps because I have heard that these are good too.

Does anyone know if it is true about the Olive Gardens stuffed mushrooms? I read that they are atkins friendly. I am going to call the manager there and find out if I can find out exactly what is in them because they are soooo good and I could add that onto my list of places that I can go out to eat at if it's true.

Great idea about calling the restaurant, let me know how that works out for you. I can't begin to tell you how many times I passed up "possible" Atkins friendly foods at restaurants JUST IN CASE....Never thought to remember the items and do some research later!! good idea!!

Wow! That's a very great post and I can tell you that I have fallen into many of those categories at one time or another. Its a good thing that we as humans learn from the mistakes we made. Just pick up where you left off and go from there, doing it the right way. Besides, its just two weeks! What harm will that do to you aside from losing a few pounds and a few inches here and there? (No harm!!) You'll lose all your cravings and when you're done, you decide if you want to move on to OWL or stay on Extended just a while longer.

Be sure to take your measurements with measuring tapes. Don't get discouraged when you don't see any pounds loss. There could be some sneaky inches that left you without you monitering it! Do a weekly measurement check and a weight check too. Don't become addicted to the scale. It's an evil evil thing at points. Just a few pointers! I wish you the best of luck! =)

Olive garden stuffed mushrooms are not ok! The main ingredient in the stuffing is bread crumbs and that is white bread by the way. I will post this again under restuarants.
