Hot Dogs?

Hi everyone,
My mom is on Atkins, she's 1/2way through Induction, and we're wondering if hot dogs count as a protein... thanks!

I BUY THE OSCAR MEYER THAT HAVE LESS THAN ONE CARB PER HOT DOG. BUT THE BOOK TALKS ABOUT BEING CAREFUL WITH FOODS THAT CONTAIN NITRATES LIKE BACON AND HOTDOGS.

Is there a particular brand of bacon/hot dogs, that don't have nitrates? I have yet to see them..

I love hot dogs. It must be a holdover from my childhood. I was not happy to learn about nitrates however and so am not having them since I can't find one without nitrates. DANDR doesn recommend not eating nitrates so the minute a nitrate-free hot dog comes out, I'm buying stock.

I Have Never Seen Any That Are Nitrate Free. I Rarely Eat One.

I never eat hot dogs...too processed and too much sodium for my liking.

As has been suggested already, hot dogs might be all right for induction depending on the ingredients in them.
As with all processed foods you need to look at the list of ingredients to help you decide if they contain only ingredients on the allowed list.

Applegate Farms brand - no nitrates - no carbs. Totally natural. I love them.

Me too! And you cannot tell them from the "poisoned" ones.

Their bacon is good too. I think posters need to know that they're usually stocked with the "organic" refrigerated foods. Especially at Shop Rites.

there ARE brands of bacon that are nitrate/nitrite free: look for "uncured" bacon (I buy the Farmland brand, but I know Oscar Meyer makes one, too, and that should be available nationally)

don't know about the hot doggies

ooh! now I know about the doggies ~ I'm gonna try the Applegate Farms. A hot dog is such a satisfying snack!
