Default Chicken Wing in Restaurants

Are they OK tp eat? If the server says they're not breaded, am I to believe them? Any experience in this matter?

Thanks,
Newbie

I think they are mostly all breaded; it helps the sauce to stick...servers usually don't know much about the food prep (unfortunately) the manager should know.

Sometimes they are tossed in flour. I have eaten chicken wings out in restaurants and can usually find ones that have no flour or breading.

aah yes thats what I meant...not breading like on an onion ring...

however, most corporate restaurants use frozen prepared or partially prepared product...and those wings are coated with potato starch...and sometimes even precooked so that they just need to go from freezer to fryer....the potato starch makes for a crispy exterior and helps the sauce to cling.

I would stay away from them unless the manager can assure you that there is no starch or flour.

I know this because I have been in corporate restaurant management.

The place where I get wings from has their nutritional info online. According to it the chicken wings have 0 carbs, 0 fiber, 0 sugar. The sauce I get has 2 carbs, 1 fiber, 0 sugar. So I feel pretty safe eating those. I would say when in doubt ask to see their nutritional info or try to find it online before you go.

So funny this thread is here, I had a dream about some friends ordering chicken wings (like from Pizza Hut or what not) and I was telling them, I can't have the BBQ ones, but maybe the parmesan ones..lol Glad I read this, I'm sure they do dust them all with flour.

Red Robin chicken wings have four carbs for ten. They include the dressing in that count so i'm assuming the rest is sauce. I'll have to ask the managers next time if they're dipped in flour.
