Default Confused

I'm on day 4 of Atkins Induction. I started Mdonay and I have eaten the following:

Monday
Morning Start Breakfast Bar
2 string cheese
1 pepper jack string cheese
pork skins
1 large can of canned chicken with mayo and black pepper
1 bundle of asparagus with side of mayo
1 large piece of baked salmon
1 gallon + 8 oz water

Tuesday

Morning Start Breakfast Bar
2 string cheese
1 pepper jack string cheese
1 large can of canned chicken with mayo and black pepper
pork skins
Salt and Pepper baked chicken wings
1 gallon + 8 oz water

Wednesday

Morning Start Breakfast Bar
2 string cheese
1 pepper jack string cheese
1 large can of canned chicken with mayo and black pepper
pork skins
Broiled London Broil
1/2 head of steamed cabbage with butter
1 gallon water

Today

Morning Start Breakfast Bar
2 string cheese
1 pepper jack cheese
leftover london broil
1 bowl salad
1 large piece of salmon (tonight)
asparagus (tonight)
1 gallon 8 oz of water

Now to the question.... I just used keto sticks and they are not registering anything at all! However, on the scale i have lost 15lbs. Is that even possible? I started at 485 and now im 470.

I'm not an expert on this, but are the morning start breakfast bars induction-safe?

Also, it seems like you could be eating more throughout the day...just a thought.

It is entirely possible to lose that much weight. Congrats on a great start!!

Do you record your weight in the morning, before drinking any water and getting dressed? If you do so and you went 15 lbs down, then your weight loss is the most amazing I ever heard of.

I wouldnt advise the breakfast bars but thats a whole other post. From what I can tell besides that, you arent getting enough veggies in. You should be getting 2 cups salad veggies plus one cup other veggies a day.

As far as the keto sticks go, I wouldnt worry too much about what they say and go more by the physical effects of ketosis. Are you experiencing appetite suppression? Are your cravings under control? If so, sounds like ketosis.

I have some ketostix and sometimes they register, sometimes they dont. In fact, I will get one that wont register, take another 30 seconds later and its bright purple. In my batch there are quite a few bad ones. I rely more on the physical signs of it.

Mine are super dark purple after a workout. Dont forget to exercise! (just in case ya arent)

Wow! 15 pounds in 4 days. I have never heard of that.
Are you feeling hungry? I agree with the others that you need to eat more. Starving yourself is just going to slow down your metabolism I think.
Also, get in those 3 cups of low carb veggies. I think veggies are very important.
On Tuesday you didn't have any veggies??
Also, spread out the veggies evenly for each meal.
Keep drinking the water. Aim for the 20 net carbs..don't go too low...
I am definately not an expert but those are my thoughts.
Definately ditch the bars and go for fresh foods.
Good luck!

Yes it is possible...you just did it! Because you are bigger you will see bigger results in the beginning than some others. Weigh to go!

Make sure you get your veggies in. And ditch the breakfast bar and have some real food. While it seems your body reacts favorably to them (lucky you) eat real food for breakfast and save the bars for emergency times.

Keep up the great work.

As the others have said, despite the claims on the pack, Atkins Breakfast Bars are NOT induction-legal.
I dont know which variety you have been eating, but here is the ingredients list for one of them which as it contains various grains is not 'legal' till the last OWL rung. check the label of yours to see when in OWL you can 'legally' add them into your menus
Quote:
Morning Oatmeal Raisin Bar
INGREDIENTS: SOY NUGGETS (SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, OAT FIBER), GLYCERIN, TOASTED OATS (ROLLED OATS, POLYDEXTROSE, SUNFLOWER OIL), RAISINS, POLYDEXTROSE, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, SUNFLOWER OIL, PALM KERNEL AND PALM OIL, MILK PROTEIN ISOLATE, WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CELLULOSE, SOY LECITHIN, CALCIUM CARBONATE, SALT, CARAMEL COLOR, SUCRALOSE, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM. VITAMIN BLEND: VITAMIN A PALMITATE, VITAMIN C (ASCORBIC ACID), VITAMIN B3 (NIACINAMIDE), VITAMIN B2 (RIBOFLAVIN), VITAMIN B1 (THIAMINE MONONITRATE), FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN E (DL ALPHA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE).
I wonder sometimes which list of allowed foods the Atkins company is working with

Congrats on the 1st 15 pounds!! I've read somewhere that during the induction phase it's possible for someone to lose 10 % their body weight or of what they have to lose!? If so, you're right on target. I would suggest keeping a food journal on www.fitday.com. It will help you get in touch with quantities and measurements. My first 3 days on induction I went way over my alotted carbs just by errors in proportions and hidden carbs in ingredients. Also use the recipes (*induction-friendly) from www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.
