Default Pre-Shreaded Cheese

I have been using pre shreaded (fancy shreaded) cheddar since being on atkins but I swore I read somewhere recently that you shouldnt have the pre-shreaded? Is this right or am I way off?

Thanks

Default Re: Pre-Shreaded Cheese

Most pre-shredded cheese have some sort of starch on them to keep them from sticking to one another. That starch would make it a no no

Hi, Robert

Check the ingredients on the label... my bet is, that it will say something like "potato starch added to prevent caking".

When I first heard that there is usually some kind of starch in pre-shredded cheese, my first thought was "Surely not mine!". When I checked - yep, there it was. Needless to say, I grate my own now.

Plus it tastes a lot better to grate your own.

Well I've stopped losing weight for the past 3 days so I'm trying to evaluate everything that I eat. I know three days isn't anything to really worry about but it worries me

I KNOW my dressing isnt the best for me but it's so good LOL its the Bacon Ranch dressing.

Another question I had was about bacon. What kind of bacon is OK for me to eat? Nitrate or nitrite free (i always get confused!)

Thanks

~Robert

Coleman puts out a nitrate free, as does Applegate. Applegate is also organic, and they put out a "really good" (accorning to DH) hotdog that's sugarfree. I'm not a hotdog eater, while DH has eaten every dog under the sun, so I'll take his word on it

I found ONE pack of bacon at Krogers that didnt have any nitrates but it was like $4 "Center Cut Uncured Bacon" - Naturally Preferred

I only eat two eggs for breakfast and I'm trying to find something to eat alongside it so I can up the fat content. I'm never hungry in the mornings but I eat beacuse I should :P

well if worse comes to worse, you can always make yourself some breakfast sausage.....that's always good 'n' fatty. Turnip "homefries" fried in oil? A side of panfried mushrooms? Top your eggs with cheese and guacamole?
