| Vegetable juices or fruit juices aren't acceptable for Induction. The only juices allowed are lemon or lime juice in the amount of 2 to 3 tablespoons.

| I guess it's really important to read labels, isn't it? I just looked at a jar of so-called healthy choice brand tomato sauce I had in the cupboard and it says 12 grams of carbohydreates in 1/2 cup. I thought how can that be, so I read the label and it says sugar in the ingredients. Guess I'll start making my own sauce with plain old ripe tomatoes. |

| You could make your own sauce by using chopped tomatoes and some spices and cooking them to a 'mush' - or use canned tomatoes (check for added sugar). Count the carbs from the tomatoes as part of your one cup of 'other vegetables' on the induction-allowed list.

I know tomato juice is not specifically listed in the induction acceptable list, but in Chapter 8, there is a table called "How (and When) to Eat Your Veggies". In it Dr. A. says tomatoes are the exception to the rules "Don't drink your vegetables" and "Cook carefully". Is there another place where tomato juice is specifically added?

| Thanks a bunch, Elizellen. I missed the juices category in the power of five. I find it handy when I need some veggie carbs and am not too hungry. And the lycopene is an additional bonus.
