| Shakes and bars are known stallers. Use only the 2002 version of Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution book and don't use the Atkins site. There are lots of posts you can search on here that discuss how the Atkins company changed after his death and how they promote frankenfood products that will stall your losses to make money! A clean induction will help you get control of your cravings. I am speaking from personal experience here...I have done Atkins before and I drank a shake everyday and lost no where what I have this time around. |

| Apart from the 'lowcarb' products possibly stalling you the other reason not to eat the bars in particular during induction is that ALL of them (as far as I know) contain ingredients that are NOT on the induction-allowed foods list. You need to read the list of ingredients on the bars and other products to work out which phase of Atkins would allow them as menu items regardless of what the manufacturer claims as to which level of Atkins they are suitable for. So if they have nuts in addition to other induction-legal ingredients you need to wait till you are on the nuts/seeds rung/level of OWL, if they also contain soy then wait till the legumes rung but if they also contain wheat or other grain products they would not become 'legal' till the last rung of OWL. When you reach the rung on which all the ingredients are 'legal' you could experiment by eating one and see if it gives you blood sugar problems (check the long list in DANDR) as well as if it makes you stop losing weight. If you experience no blood sugar symptoms AND continue to lose weight while eating them you can safely include them in your way of eating.

| Hi all! I am new to Atkins as well as the site. I have been using the shakes and the bars during my 5 days so far on induction. I just read on the Atkins website that these items were included in their 2 week sample menu so, I assumed they were induction friendly. I think I am going to stop them for the remaining days and see what happens. BTW, this site is a huge help. |

| I wouldn't try any of the bars or shakes during induction. To me they are still fake food (not created in nature). While most people can get by without so much of a stall, these convenience foods could be the beginning of something that you start to rely heavily upon. I get my pants in a bunch because the Atkins website claims that these types of "foods" are induction friendly. I have to believe in my heart of hearts that Dr. Atkins wouldn't agree. I cannot remember exactly what page of DANDR 2002, but he does mention to eat cleanly and foods of the best quality. My advice...prepare some goodies ahead of time for quick meals and/or snacks. Glad you're here! Hope to see you around here |
