| hey I am just like you, I only ate meat three times a week but I don't enjoy steak. I find that my induction menu is mostly eggs, and sometimes Tofu. Not sure if tofu is allowed but I haven't stalled so far, and I always check the labels to make sure there are no hidden stuff I don't want. Try some tofu. medium tofu, broccoli and cauliflower with some sesame oil, garlic, and schezuan sauce. (read labels on sauces, sometimes they add sugar) Hope this helps a little. |

| You know that you don't have to complete the full two weeks of Induction, right? Once you're popping pink or purple on the strips, start moving up - add that extra cup of veggies. Make sure you're diversifying the veggies. (I'm loving spaghetti squash with pesto, olive oil, extra garlic and parmesan cheese...mmmm) When I get into a heavy fat funk, I stop eating beef/pork for a couple of days. I eat only chicken and seafood then. Walmart and Food Lion sometimes have precooked shrimp bags on a buyone getone free special. Catfish around here is pretty inexpensive. Yeah, usually served fried, but also wonderful baked with cajun seasonings. If you crush up pork rinds, you can use it as your coating to fry, tho. With Atkins, I think you have to be a smarter shopper. I'm watching specials more than I used to, stocking up when I can.

According to Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition, you should be eating 3 cups of the vegetables on the list. You can eat them cooked or raw. As pointed out tofu is alllowed during Induction. So are eggs (no you don't have to eat them fried, boiled or scrambled, you can use them as an ingredient in another dish like quiche or a frittatta.)

| I forgot to add...Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein diet. So eating "alot" of meat is completely unnecessary and is potentially detrimental to your weight loss. Dr. Atkins wrote that the excess dietary meat is converted to sugar by your body. Whatever isn't used up immediately for energy purposes is stored as body fat.

| I agree with Megs, Induction should be a minimum of 2 weeks as Dr. Atkins specifies in his book. There's alot more to induction than just changing the colour of your Ketostix...it's a learning process.

| Hi ladies, Thanks for all the input. Just some clarification...I'm eating my veggies, as many as Induction will allow and with lots of variety. I'm also getting my fat through cream, cheeses and cooking oils. I'm good there. This is purely a meat thing. It's not that I eat a lot of it, it's that I eat a lot of it for me. One serving a day is three times as much meat as I'm used to. As for the length of Induction, I should have put the little marker thing in my sigline, because I'm actually doing Extended Induction. This isn't for me, but for my fiance who needs to lose more than I do. I want to support him. Which sort of brings me back to the main purpose of my post...meat alternatives will make a huge difference for me. I really like the suggestion of tofu, and am glad to hear it's accepted in Induction. I think that's interesting considering soy beans are a legume and a rung on OWL (I'm not questioning it, just think it's interesting). I'm going begin including that occasionally, and see how it goes. Again, thanks for all the feedback! If anyone still has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. |

| This is my second serious attempt at this WOE, and prior to the first time, I was actually a vegetarian for more than 10 years. I still don't eat any red meat. I just stick to chicken, sometimes turkey breast, ham steaks or uncured deli ham or bacon, eggs, and cheese for protien. I have a hard time eating large quantities of meat as well so I'll take some white meat chicken cut up in a salad full of veggies and I have that with feta cheese and olive oil for extra fat since I don't eat a whole lot of fatty meat...today I made a pork chop for lunch but I was having a hard time finishing it so I cut up the rest and put it in a baggy in the fridge and just take a small piece here and there through the day. Sometimes for lunch I also take a couple pieces of no sugar deli ham and roll it up with cheese into a romaine leaf...you could add mayo and roll some veggies into it as well...easier to me than eating a big slab of meat lol |

| Just adding to the people who dont eat 'lots of meat' here. I maybe have one meal each day with a piece of meat and veggies, but otherwise I tend to eat dishes with a little meat added to them - like an omelette with an ounce or two of chopped ham, a crustless quiche sometimes with a little meat and often with just veggies in it, or grilled aubergines (eggplant) or courgettes (zucchini) with a sprinkling of cooked bacon bits and a layer of cheese on the top. I seldom eat red meat either as I prefer chicken and pork. Just occasionally when eating out I might order steak but as that is usually expensive and not always cooked well this might only be a couple of times a year. You can get enough protein from eggs, cheese, fish etc without having lots of meat on Atkins.
