Default 2 Food Questions

1) Is there a limit on how many Pork Rinds one can eat? 0 Carbs, of course.

2) I have Heavy Whipping Cream, 0 Carbs. How much of that can I have?

I don't have my book yet so please bare with me.

PS - Any recipe ideas for that whipping cream? Thanks in advance.

I don't know how many you can eat, but I eat them both....especially the whip cream....15 calories a tablespoon, and no carbs or fat...I indulge daily, whenever I get a urge for something sweet. I sent you a receipe on another thread but I forgot to tell you the carb count is 0 and the calorie count is 6 per.

I just read a receipe for cheesecake...using splenda and cream cheese.....I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi FoodAddict,

I don't have my book with me, but luckily the FAQ on this board has a bunch of info! Here's what I found on the thread (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)What foods can be eaten on Induction?:

Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives, half a small avocado, an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.

Hope that helps!

I think your pork rinds definitely have no carbs but heavy cream does no matter what the label says. it is one of those things that they can post no carbs based on the serving size, but you have to be careful.

On induction, I would definitely stay away from the "treats" it is easy to overeat and get out of hand or stall yourself. Remember you are trying to break your additiction to high carb snack foods and if you substitute like for like right away , you are not really breaking the habit, IMO. Pork Rinds can be a lot like potato chips.

One thing I try to remember is that ATkins said calories do count, you just don't need to count them to lose. Meaning that if you eat less calories you will lose faster. In one of his books, he mentioned a guy who ate huge quantities and still lost but much slower then I want to think about. He also said most people will actually be consuming less calories because the fat will keep your appetite satiated. So I try to keep that stuff for occassions where it will really help me or nothing else available to curb the appetite.

I have to be really careful about the sweet stuff cause it can trigger some out of control eating. On the other hand, if you can't do without asweet snack, doing it low carb is surelythe best way!

When I was a newbie, there was an ADBB member who was part of the Duke University study on the Atkins Diet. She said that Dr. Atkins said that pork rinds should be limited to 1 cup daily.

With that said, you have to look at the nutritional value of the pork rinds. IS eating them preventing you from eating your 3 cups of veg or from eating other protein foods like meat? Is the sodium content of the pork rinds causing you to retain water?

One of the things we absolutely must learn is to moderate our food intake, because over-eating is one of the reasons why many of us need to go on a weight loss diet.

As for heavy cream recipes.....I use it as an ingredient in other foods rather than as a food on its own. For example, I use it in quiches, as a thickening agent for pan sauces, etc.
