Smile Starting Today-Please Help

I registered for this board quite a bit ago but I just couldn't get it going. So, today I started the induction period. I'm looking for any advice, or pointers that anyone may have. In the morning I will be going grocery shopping. I'd love some advice on what to buy. That is the part of induction that tripped me up last time. It seems SOO HARD keeping to 20 carbs a day. Just what should I eat and how much?

Thanks,
Polly

buy a kitchen scale from walmart. it is $ 8.99.
Buy brussels sprouts. just cut them up in four and saute in olive oil with salt.
always have eggs, mushrooms, green peppers, yellow squash and zuchinni in your fridge. you can cut them up and use them in almost every meal. and add them to any induction recipe.
i got some good advise here on the board not to eat too much lettuce as it does not have enough nutrients etc and just fills up your quota of 2 cups without really giving you anything good.
EXERCISE ! it will really add at least 4 pounds to your induction weight loss.

first 3 days will be the hardest, just stick with it, you will feel like superman from the 4th day after LOL

I am new too, just doing my induction but this board and all the people and posts are extremely helpful. Just look around, all the answers you need are here !

look at my journal, i have written down everything that i have eaten and i have been about close to the 20 carb mark ( i have never been over , just less).

you can kill any sweet craving with a MOCK DANISH. I dont have the time to post the link now but just search that name and the recipe will come up.

good luck my friend !

ps........ post your 'before' picture, it will keep you motivated and you will love to compare later.

I would suggest looking at a copy of the induction-allowed foods and choosing those you like to eat and making your shopping list from that.

As Ashley said, lettuce is not particularly nutritious so make sure you dont just eat that as your veg.

If there are vegetables that you enjoy eating raw, purchase those and cut them up and store them in baggies in your fridge. Marie's Blue Cheese dressing makes an excellent dip.

Ashley, Why do I need a scale? I thought I was supposed measure by the cup full?

Elizellen, I'll check it out of the library again. I thought I remembered well enough but maybe not.

Creek, thanks. That is a good idea.

Cheryl, Thanks. I'll see you there.

Just wanted to jump in and say welcome. This forum is a lot of what's helping me through this Induction, looking through the threads for information, seeing the support for everyone, and asking questions myself. I'm still an amateur, but hoping to learn enough to help others with info. in the future. For now, I offer my support. PM me anytime! I'll always reply. Oh and a cup a day of pork rinds is a good snack that helps me through the day. They're pretty good!

There is a wallet sized induction foods list here that you can print out to take shopping with you or for reference when eating out.

i tried doing the cup-full thing but i was pretty confused when measuring things like brussel sprouts etc. Also i felt like the scale gave me an exact number instead of guessing or any error on my part. you dont have to use it, just that it made my life so much easier.
oh and there is a nice sticky post here somewhere that gives you an estimate of how much a cupfull of a veggie really is ........ for instance a cupfull of lettuce will be *grams or a cupfull of mushrooms will be * grams.
it's pretty cool.

when i first started i printed out pages from here by the hundreds ! LOL
but now i have a few good tips pasted on my fridge.

good luck dear. feel free to send me a message, i am on induction too and we can always share what we are going thru.

you are right about the pork rinds. I wont eat pork or beef but i have discovered that pork rinds are excellent for salty/spicy cravings and mock danish best for sweet cravings.
and to be honest , i havent had any 'cravings' after about the 4th day of induction. But i read that we can crush pork rinds and use them as a crunchy 'breading' on meat too !
