Default new with a Splenda question

Hi everone I am new ton this site. I will post an introduction later - but I have a question

I have an older book. I have been doing induction for 8 days now. I lost 6.6lbs the first week and 10.5inches! I am pleased.

I drink diet rite soda - I know I *should* kick the pop habbit but I was wondering how to count diet rite and how to count each packet of splenda (for my decaf coffee/tea)?

I don't write down my carb count. (although i am going to start) I know I am well under 20carbs per day - however I fear that too much of it is Splenda. Even though it doesn't seem to be stalling me - I'd like to cut back and elminate all non whole foods.

Thank you for the help!

Erika

Hi Erika and welcome aboard. Awesome start thus far. Me personally I would do without the soda. Especially in your induction period. God Bless, Joe

Good job so far! We are limited to 3 servings of artificial sweetners a day. They do not count towards your water intake. So make sure you get that in.

But, with splenda packets how many are 1 serving? 1,2,3??? or maybe the better question is how may packets equal 1 carb?

I mean 1 can of soda is 1 serving -but surely there is more than 1 packets worth of splenda for 1 can of soda.

So, if I usually put 2 packets in my tea is that 1 serving or two.

I know this is nit picky - but I am wondering. A cup of tea or decaf coffee is my big treat for the day while the girls all take their nap or after they go to bed for the night. And while in a perfect world I would give it all up - sometimes amid my choas for the day it is a little piece of solace which keeps me on target to keeps moving forward.

Nope it is not being too picky. I think you already know the answer because you said it in your first post...I fear that too much of it is Splenda...

Yes, it is allowed (3 servings). Yes, it is not affecting you. NO..it still isn't good for you.

8oz of pop is one serving. 1 pack of splenda is 1 serving...read the package...I think it is a carb per pack?? Anyway...your inner voice is telling you what is right but if you want more input here is a link to a thread you might find interesting that asked the same questions.

Default Re: new with a Splenda question

I had that exact question when I started induction and I was never sure how many splenda carbs were actually in each serving...and I didn't want to risk it, so I threw out my soda and splenda altogether. Day 14 for me today, no sweets at all.
P.S. I used to be able to eat 3 bags of chocolate chips per day...and 2 x 2 liters of Diet Rite ( I would drink that before I started, liked the taste)

Thank everyone, I'm going to set my current goal to be not more than one beverage (of soda tea coffee) per day. Today I hav't had any. Maybe some days I will just pass on it. i on't think (in small amounts) it hurts my loosing - but I know it toys with my mind and I know in the end it's not real food or good for me.

That is a great goal! Like you said...even if it doesn't hurt your losing. Also you will feel better if you come across a recipe that has it in it...the less you lose the better. besides I really think your taste buds change. I used to use a LOT of sugar in my coffee. Now things are naturally tasting sweet. My new fav veggies...red pepper. Good luck!
