Default Confused about UK/US foods!

Hey

I introduced myself a while ago on the spotlight (?) and am just having a good look around for ideas etc.

One thing that I'd definiteley say was confusing me is that I'm from the UK and I don't want to go wrong by using our version of US products (I hope this makes sense)!!

For example, when you say cream cheese, what exactly do you mean? Could I use cottage cheese or Philedelpia?

Also, I work late sometimes (3-11pm) and although I will have breakfast and lunch at home, I always struggle and get too hungry at work so I cave! What snack-type things are acceptable from UK shops? I have a some pepperami, and have heard about babybel... Can someone please clarify for me?

Like I said in my introduction, please excuse me if I'm being clueless

Many thanks xxxx

Philedelphia is a brand of cream cheese. Cream cheese is allowed. Cottage cheese is off limits during induction (It has a higher carb count) So do all fresh farmers cheeses and cheese curds.

As for snacks..... I find I don't really need them - but when i do I eat a mozzarella cheese stick or a little bit of left over meat. I have found a Ham by me with no sugar on the ingredient list and no carbs (Frick's). or sometimes I have a 1/4 of an avocado ( I save the other part for in a salad later). I like it plain with a bit of salt and a tiny drip of lime juice. (I don't use the lemon and I don't worry over a few droplets of lime juice. My quiet time snack when the baby's are asleep is a cup of decaf coffee or tea.

Thankyou

I hope i wont need to snack but I know that after working for eight hours in a physical job I will get hungry and want to be prepared.

Am going to make myself a caffeine free tea and have a longer look at the forums xx

Hi Barbie!

Atkineer from the UK here. Philadelphia cream cheese is induction legal, but make sure you don't use Philly light. I can't see any problem with Babybel either, its a full fat cheese and therefore legal. I agree that it is good to be prepared with snacks, I walked around for a few days with some in a small cooler bag when i first started - didn't always need them, but at least I was ready for an attack of the munchies!

My favourite snack, if required, are those cheese strings or a couple of sticks of pepperami. They are always available in even the smallest of Tescos where I live.

Now, having mentioned attacks of the munchies, I have just realised that I missed lunch - blimey! better go and eat.

Hope your first few days go well, and keep us posted.

Keetje

Hiya

I'm from the UK too & am on day 8 of induction. I have been having philly full fat cream cheese (good with smoked salmon for breakfast or smeared over celery for a snack!) I also have pepperami, crispy bacon & babybels for snacks.

Took me a while to get used to the measurements but on minimins.com there is a link to weights in grams for us UK folk. Will try & find it & post it for you.

Btw I buy Waitrose's 'Creamy soft cheese' rather than philly brand cream cheese as it has about half the carbs!! Similarly Lidl fullfat mayo has less carbs than Hellmans fullfat mayo. So get reading those labels!

For snacks, smoked salmon rollups with cream cheese are wonderful! And you can get such nice Scottish salmon across the pond!

Thanks everyone for your responses! I'm on day six now [induction] and I'm starting to get the hang of it! To be honest, snack-wise, I find I don't really find I need to snack as often, I've found the difference between hunger and simply cravings. It's really strange, but so great!! xx

Barbie, I feel exactly the same too - far less hungry and better. I'm also on day six!
