Default traveling

I am having to travel this weekend for 5 days (Ok a little more than the weekend). Any tips? I worry that I won't have acess to meats and cheeses. More so, I'm worried i'm going to go nutty and eat. My MIL drives me to anxious places! Oh, and I am going to face three "family parties" (ie food fests) and eating out at restraunts.

and tips would be great

Buying some travel snacks like mini packs of cheese, a rotisserie chicken, maybe some peppers, etc. and packing them in a cooler is a good start. As far as restaurants go, steak and salad or another meat (ask for no sauces) or caesar salad can be an easy alternative. Even Italian restaurants can be negotiated with careful choices. I know it is hard in family situations sometimes. I tend to hang with the kids instead of the adults when it gets too intense. They are usually playing and keep me more active anyway. And you can invite others to take a walk, volunteer to run to the store, anything to break the stress if need be.

You'll do fine if you want. If you want to indulge then you will. You need to stay focused and true to yourself. I'm sure there will be something "legal" at these functions that you'll be able to eat. I've gone out of my way to find a burger joint or diner, so it deoends on how strong and prepared you are for the task at hand. Gotta stay motivated or else you'll end up back where you started. Good luck. God Bless, Joe

Thumbs up Re: traveling

What if you offered to cook/make something.. you could stay on plan and noone would be the wiser. I'm going away for a few days myself and that was my solution. I'm stopping close by for supplies and we are having deviled eggs.. hamburgers.. etc.. You could pick up some cheese and slice it up as well. HTH

Hi there,

Yikes i can understand why you are worried! That's a lot of events to 'get through'. I go away a lot to family and they now all know I have my routine and they generally get a few things in for me. Some people are less receptive and can be insulted so I tend to eat what I can of their food and in my room have an emergency stash.

Stuff that travels ok includes: cherry tomatos, strips of celery (if you dry them off and put them in a tupperware, and then in a cooler, though I don't have one of these). hardboiled eggs last 3 days or so before they'll kill you (in my experience, though I live in a coolish country). Mini individually wrapped cheeses are good, especially babybel with wax on. Nuts (if on the right rung). Pepperoni is a good meat that doesn't need refrigerating. Little cans of tuna can be good, though mayo might be harder to come by.

I have found that this sort of thing is a state of mind. Sometimes I've 'tried' to stick to plan but not meant it and caved at the slightest thing. Other times I've 'decided' to stick on plan and I do, no matter what.

Good luck!

These are all great ideas!

Something I've learned is----When it comes to eating out, enjoy the salads and don't be afraid to ask what things are made of. I might even suggest you eat out of your cooler BEFORE you head to the resturant if you're not sure what they will have on the menu that way there's no excuse for the "I was hungry so I ate what was before me". And suggest AND do go for a walk with the family. I was totall shocked when my FIL agreed to walk with me when he was here. He actually went on his own a couple of days when I was doing something different (like the C25K weeks).

I hope you have a great time! Plan ahead for everything and enjoy!

OH,
and play hard!

Wow - loads of great ideas.
I would also recommend bringing your motivation with you and close to your heart. If you keep reminding yourself of what you are doing and why it becomes harder to give in to temptations and eat something as an excuse of hardship or lack of planning.
Good luck

Thanks eveybody, I know it's all about mindset. i men really who can't fnd a hamburger patty and so cheese in our society?? I think i worry mostly b/c we stay at my MIL's house and i NEEEEED to eat breakfast or it gets very ugly and with the three kids I get fried out so fast. She refuses to even slightly baby proof her house and I feel torn in three directions constantly and neglect my needs. Then of course I snack and graze my way along. BuI am NOT doing that this time! I ws at the store today and pulled a pair of pants of the shelf. i was sure they wouldn't fit...but ont hey went and looked pretty good! Like you ahve all said I need to keep my motivation.

Thanks for keeping me thinking straight!
