Default Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Mornin' all (at least for me).

HEIRIKA (and anyone else interested) - I used to have a small bakery out of my home. I did all the usual stuff, decorated cakes and made stuff for low carb, glutan intolerance, and any allergy that wasn't life threatening. That said, one man came to me for low carb items. He said he had lost 30 lbs so far on Atkins (6 months), lowered his cholesterol, and is now NOT insulin dependent. I took that as proof that Atkins is what it claims to be.

Well, I did it anyway. I weighed myself. First thing in the morning when I get up, so I can compare all the weigh ins equally. Like I said, I can fluctuate several pounds normally. So, with that in mind, I have lost 3-6 lbs. The first time I've been under 160 lb in quite some time. I've been practically obsessed with that number!

I had to cut short last night because DH came to look over my shoulder. He is very skeptical about Atkins and VERY wary of any exchange of info/conversation on the internet. I didn't feel like hearing about it, so I logged off. I explained my reasons for doing it. I told him I didn't get the support/help from him and going here helps. It wasn't a negative conversation. But, sometimes I just need to state things the way I see it. He can be, no IS, a very strong personality (i.e. opinionated, judgemental, stuff-shirted, black and white) but I love him and it works for us! Don't get me wrong, no one has EVER called me meek, mild or tactful for that matter. We've been married almost 16 years and a number of those years have been very volatile. But we have come to a place where we each give and take where needed and are very happy. I once told him that I didn't know that marriage was supposed to be this way. (second time around and raised in dysfunctional family--in other words, no role models) But, I digress. (this kind of info/conversation is what I would prefer him not to see only because I would get lectured about giving too much info out)

BREAKFAST (so far) - 2 hardboiled eggs, 2 TB flaxseed meal hot cereal with 1/2 TB heavy cream. No plans for the rest of the day, but parmesan chicken sounds good (just need to get it out of the freezer)

I just have to relate this--I think it amusing. Two posts ago, I kinda cut it short again. My dog, the male lab, was laying a few feet away and rolled over on to his back. What makes this special is that I taught him to do that for attention. I call it "Bat Dog". He knows he will get lovin' when he does it. Not just some little pets, either. I crawl on top of him, lean down and talk sweet nothings to him. Yeah, he gets lots of pets, too. The other ones now follow suit. The chocolate female ALWAYS come and mooches lovin's. He's a big baby(100 lb worth). I was going to write about this last night, but DH came up on me.

Now, not rushing, but time to go. My hot cereal has cooled off enough to eat!!

Later

Sorry so long-I ramble

Hi, I started Atkins on Monday as well. I'm very excited I had great success a few years back with the Atkins way and am looking forward to losing this post baby weight. I had a baby boy almost exactly four months ago Monday, I gained an astronomical 65 pounds while preggo, 20 came off with my baby boy but here I am carrying an extra 45 pounds around with me everywhere.

Anyway, I 'm looking forward to succeeding with everyone here on our new goals!!!

Good morning! Welcome Mic Mac!

Ok, so I had a rough night last night, which was good in a way because the peanut butter has been eyeing me lately. You all know we've been talking about TOM around here and I had a bad case of PMS for the last 3 or 4 days (prolly partially TOM and Atkins grumpy) so my BF has been getting upset with me. Then last night, he said well since we're getting on each others nerves so much, why dont we see each other every other day instead? Cause he needs space, "and maybe I do too". So after having been more calm yesterday, it was hard for me to hear. Im hoping it was just me being emotional, but it upset me. Even though this is something I've kinda been done with for a while now. I still love him a lot, but he says hurtful things sometimes without realizing it i think. We're coming up on a year anniversary and Im wondering if this is his way of backing off and ending it. He said its not, and i even suggested that why not cut it down to once a week, then not at all? (PMS fo SHo).. So i dont know..

Im just kinda bummed.

Im eating onion burgers this morning anyway... what I can eat of them

Nikki!! I'm sorry to hear about what happened with you last night with your boyfriend. I had the same problem with one of my exes because we used to see each other every single day and I just got tired of hanging out with him all the time. It is true that someone needs space and trust me, every other day isn't all that bad, really. There are some couples who work most of the time and only have time to see each other once a week, or even every other week. (That's kinda how it is for me with my job, but I thought ahead for schooling and I'll be able to see my beau once or twice a week. =) ) And that is good enough for me. =) As long as I get to talk to him once a day, I'll be fine because I know he will be thinking about me, as I would be thinking about him. If that makes any sense at all.

Micmac- Congrats on the baby boy!!! ^_^ And welcome to our little group, which is now more like a huge group inside a huge group? Well, good luck and you know where to come if you need any help whatsoever.

Hillbilly- Sorry your DH is that way. =( But if it works for you, then go for it. As long as he doesn't abuse you emotionally, or in any sort of way. My younger brother is judgemental, narrow minded, stubborn, arrogant, etc, and I'm really afraid he's going to end up abusing him girlfriend one day. I'm sure he's already controlling her now and brainwashed her, etc.

I thought I would never wake up this early, but I actually did!! That means I'm heading to the gym with my mom to do water aerobics, instead of me walking the dog today for 20 minutes like I planned. Lol. One hour of excercise in the pool beats 20 minutes walking, I think. =) As long as I don't mess up my left wrist while doing those push up things, which should be easier for me because I'm stronger now. But anyway, yawn yawn yawn. =P I can't eat breakfast til after the pool cause I have to take my thyroid medication and so I have to wait an hour. Ugh, an hour. But I'm hungry now!! lol. Ya, I know, I'm weird. =) Anyway, today will be a nice day, I think. Take care everyone! ^__^

My older brother is the same way, and I have the same fears.

Hillbilly- Dogs correlate commands with phonetic (spelling?) sounds. It kind of surprises me that when you say "bat dog" they don't hear "bad dog" and think they're doing something wrong. I guess it works out ok for your dogs. I just thought of that because i wanted to name my dog Juneau, and my dads friend who is a dog trainer told me that everytime i say its name it will think I'm saying "ju no!", he said in order to keep that name, I'd have to come up with another word for "no" , like "stop", so he doesn't associate his own name with doing something wrong. anyway, I'm going off on a tangent.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Estelania-I really didn't want to give a bad impression of DH. He really is a nice guy, just a little (o.k. a lot) old fashioned, and a lot very right wing/conservative. But I'm not a pushover, either. Besides, he doesn't think he is those things!!!! He bends over backwards to not step on anyone's toes--family/friends, etc. Not like me-I say it like I see it. Like I said earlier, we work well together.

LUNCH-Two chicken breast tenderlion's fried in bacon grease and topped with a slice of provolone cheese.

I have to pick up my son from camp tonight and will be eating supper there. So I think I will make another of those marinated veggie things with lots of cheese and bacon, maybe with some eggs on the side. I don't know what they are having, but I don't want to take any chances. Gotta win that bet!!!

Hi, Carbless.

I must have been composing when you posted your message.

About the dog. He is a black lab and occasionally likes to lay on his back with his legs up in the air. My son and I both laughed when one of us said he looks like a bat dog (ears laying straight out from his head). And the name stuck. There is so much positive reinforcement to that command. The reason I think it works is that we don't say "bad dog". When the occasion warrants it, we just say "Bad". But we don't often get to do that because, with three dogs, there are not many times that we know exactly who did the bad deed. When you start shaking something at them with a stern look on your face and say "Did you do this?", they all look up guiltily!!!

Such fun. They listen better than the kids--most of the time.

Hi everyone!

Wifey, congrats on the weight loss!

Hillbilly, that's so cute that you are like that with your dogs. I sure hope your DH comes around but I'm sure the results will speak for themselves. My doctor initally put me on 3 glucose meds. Well, happy to report that I take the Byetta as prescribed (twice a day) and the metformin only once. The other med I'm not taking at all. I know when I start exercising I'm going to have to get rid of something, either the Byetta or Metformin. I'm thinking Byetta but I won't do that until I check with my doctor. When you're diabetic, you have to learn to adjust the medicine to your glucose readings, like insulin.

Bekka, so glad things went well with you and your beau.

Nikki, don't fret. The both of you will be missing each other again and before you know it, you'll be hanging out everyday.

Micmac, welcome to the thread! Atkins Rocks!!!!

Let me share how I'm feeling today with you all. I must say I'm smitten with Atkins. I just wish Dr. Atkins was alive so I could tell him. Yesterday my headaches diminshed tremendously. Last night I had a chick-fil-a salad, the chargrilled one. I picked the carrots off of it because it wasn't on the list to eat. On their website it says that the salad has 10g carbs and 4g fiber. Not sure why it's so high, maybe with the carrots. Everything else I ate on the salad was Atkins friendly. And the great thing is that the Ranch dressing is only 1g carb. I was in heaven. So, I had it for lunch again today. I have never enjoyed eating a salad as I did last night and today. The fact that I could have regular ranch dressing and it was so good. When I bite into the lettuce, it just seems to burst in my mouth. lol The lettuce was crisp and juicy. lol It was though. I'm use to the flat lettuce but now they have this kind that look like a 2 regular pieces of lettuce connected with a wedge in the middle. When you bite on that part, it's like it's filled with water and it bursts in your mouth. lol maybe I'm being too dramatic about it. I am not having any trouble getting my water in. I'm literally like this I feel my energy level up too. OOoooo, let me tell y'all. Today in our board meeting, I was mentally sharp. My focus and concentration was crystal clear. I was able to keep up with what was said without a struggle. It was the greatest feeling.

I have been feeling fine today. The bad symptoms seem to be leaving. I have headache spurts here and there, but other than that I'm ok. I was wondering, does anyone else have head pains that come and go? I'm wondering if I need to go get a CT scan or something.

Morning everybody..

Still kind of bummed from yesterday, where BF didnt call like promised and then went over at 1.15 in the morning > BUT something that helps is that my scale says a little under 210!!! So, my official weigh day and measurement taking is tomorrow, cant wait...

Last night I could hardly eat (due to bummed-ness and lack of appetite thanks to WOL) but I had steak and asparagus. I have no idea what I did to the veggie to make it so rubbery, but I hope I dont do it again LoL.

Looks like fresh cooked bacon for breakfast, I havent had that in a while. Supposedly have plans with BF to go swimming - we'll see how that goes, IF it goes at all. We need to have a little chat, but I dont want to ruin the day.

Day 6 for me!!! Who else?
