Default No carb products.....

Has anyone heard of Walden Farms products?? They have barbecue sauce and many other things that are carb free, sugar free. I wonder how these would be? Anyone???

The lable doesn't say anything about sugar alcohols...Don't they have to include it on the lable if they're there? We've eaten the Walden Farms salad dressing. My husband really likes it, but I don't care for it much. I'd rather just have plain old oil and vinegar. I'd say give them a shot and see if you like them. There's a good Stubbs barbque baste that only has 1 carb. I put it on baked chicken all the time.

i think i saw something about thier products being made with cellulose, which I'm pretty sure is some kind of sugar?

i don't know...i saw this

Cellulose is an organic compound with the formula (C6H10O5)n, a polysaccharide consisting of a linear chain of several hundred to over ten thousand β(1→4) linked D-glucose units

their products also have xanthan gum

Xanthan gum is a polysaccharide used as a food additive and rheology modifier (Davidson ch. 24). It is produced by a process involving fermentation of glucose or sucrose by the Xanthomonas campestris bacterium.

Just grabbed our bottle out of the fridge. Yep, You're right...Both Cellulose and Xanthan Gum, as well as something called Propylene Glycol Alginate--Glycol being somehow related to glucose? Anyhow, just an afirmation that good old oil and vinegar is good enough for me!

Propylene glycol alginate is an emulsifier, stabilizer, and thickener used in food products. It is a food additive with E number E405. Chemically, propylene glycol alginate is an ester of alginic acid, which is derived from kelp.

not sure...but i would think glycol would be related to glycogen...will have to look further into it.

I have used the Walden products in the past they are very good but like a lot of these kinds of products caused me to stall and crave other carbs after eating them ..........I have decided that when ever I try to outsmart the WOE I end up just sabotaging myself in the process so now I just stick to the basics.

Glycol is any alcohol in which two hydroxyl groups are attached at different carbon atoms. PGA is considered safe by the FDA, but that basically just means that it hasn't done harm in the 100+ years it's been used. PGA does not accumulate in the body, which is why it is used in "diet" products. It is made from algae.

I'd say as long as it doesn't make you stall you'd be okay, just depends on what you think yourself on the whole eating chemicals thing lol

Thanks everyone. I bought a bottle of their bbq sauce and ate some of it on some chicken for dinner. It was good, then I read you all's posts, and I thought OH SH#T!!!!! I went and looked and sure enough the bbq sauce DOES contain Xanthan gum, and Propylene Glycol Alginate, among other things. Just goes to show you... Read the labels!! I just assumed since it said "No carbs, and no sugar" it was safe. dumb me!!
Oh boy......Guess I'm about to find out if it will cause me to stall.
