Default fat intake and ketosis

Can you be in ketosis and not lose weight by eating too much fat? Does your body only get rid of so much and store the rest?

Yes, although it would be more correct to say that you can be in ketosis and not lose weight from eating too many calories.

Hello Stacy Welcome to ADBB!

As Eric suggested, if you eat too much food for your body's needs in general, whether fat, protein or carbs then you will most likely not lose weight

So we have to learn our body's signals and only eat till we are no longer hungry.

For some of us this takes time as our body is so out of whack that we can't tell when we have eaten enough, but usually ketosis brings about a diminished appetite so it helps us to not overeat.

In fact many of us (to our surprise) find we have to try hard to eat enough food once ketosis kicks in!!

So as long as i stay in a normal calorie range, 65%-75% of calories from fat is ok and what I should be aiming for?

Thanks for the replys. I am new to Atkins and these boards and your answers really help a lot!

Thanks again.

Yes... I think 65% fat 30% protein and 5% carb is right about where you want to be in Induction.

I know too high of calories varies. What is "too high" I'm eating 1800-2400 and hitting the 65/5/30% I've been stalling out and not eating enough calories (around 1200-1300) SO this week I am aiming for 17-20 carbs and @2000 caloires.

Erika,

We are almost identical in our starting stats! I'm 32, 5'8" and my starting weight was 202.

So far I am down 7 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks and i have been anywhere from 1700-2300 calories a day and in the right fat/protein/carb %. But i haven't been doing a "clean" or correct induction either.

I have yet to cut out cystal light packets in my water or a daily diet coke. I have been using the low-carb bars as replacement meals when i haven't had time for a "real" meal. A few times I have went over 20 carbs, and on the weekends I have had a few drinks! But for me, just cutting out bread, pasta, and sugar was hard enough.

Even though I am not doing a clean induction, i'm pretty sure i am in ketosis. I have the yucky mouth, loss of appetite and increased energy. I have not bought the sticks to test, but feel great so don't feel the need. Plus I am losing, maybe slow, but I'm losing!

Now that my sugar/carb cravings are gone, I am going to try ease myself into Atkins Induction and try cut out things like the crystal light and diet coke to see if that will help lose a little faster.

I also am going to try play around with my calories each week and see where i should be at for the best loss.

Good for you Stacy -it sounds like you are easing into things! I have found this to be rally easy overall - but a bit nerve rackening. My body seems to losse nothing for 1-2 weeks and loose 3-4 lbs and then repeat the cycle again - it's been a mind game. So i have been working to up my calories and we'll see how this week goes. I'll keep a watch for you since, like you said, we have pretty much the same stats. That's cool!

That is definitely something I want to echo!! I just bought some of the Ketosix and the first night I was in "slight to moderate" and the next night I was in dark but not THE darkest purple. I am almost NEVER hungry now and have to REALLY try to eat to get my carbs in...on Day 7 of Induction now.

It's difficult. I woke up about an hour ago...I was up late last night and I am just NOW about to and make my eggs for breakfast. At 10:30 am! And only because I know I need to! No hunger whatsoever. But I know they will taste wonderful with chopped onion and some cheddar.

And I am looking forward to bun-less bacon cheeseburgers for dinner tonight. haha!

But she's definitely right...just enough to satisfy and NOT stuff is what hubby and I have been doing and he's now down a bit over 5 lbs and I'm now down 4...2 more than yesterday!

We have a saying in this house...what would Elizellen say? You seem to know so much!! THANK YOU!!

I have had a decrease in appetite, but today is unbelievable!! This is the first day I don't want to eat anything. It is 10:45am and I have been up since 6:45. Usually I would have thought I was going to starve to death if I hadn't had any food yet! Plus I was in the habit of just eating no matter if i was hungry or not.

I go to the gym over my lunch break, so am going to eat a hard boiled egg now, just so i have something in my stomach and then salad after workout for lunch.

And speaking of salads, is there a store bought salad dressing (i like ranch, blue cheese) that is low-carb and still tastes good? Right now i have been using Hidden Valley Ranch, which has 2 carbs per tablespoon. Ranch dressing accounts for about 6-8 of my carbs a day, not to mention a good chunck of calories and fat! But ranch makes the salads so good.
