Great thread, Eric! I tried to rep you, but it said I had to spread the love around.

I also enjoyed reading everyone's opinion. Nice give and take without needing a referee.

As a person coming up on my three-year anniversary of doing Atkins, I can tell you that you can go months and not take a bite not on your rung, and then all at once you fall apart. I will forever be an addict. I will also be forever on Atkins. I can never let down my guard. I go months without even wanting to eat the old foods, then all of a sudden, I am having a giant pity party because I can't eat fruit like a 'normal' person or that it is so not fair that I am allergic to wheat and grain.

Then, I concentrate on all the decadent foods that I can eat that I couldn't touch on low fat/low calorie and think what a lucky girl I am. All is well again in Atkinsville.

Sunny!

All I can say is that I look up to you guys that have been with this for years and have succeeded. Your feedback is very valuable to me. I lurked on this site for weeks and finally decided to get brave and post (first time I have EVER posted to a forum).

The only reason I took that step is because of the compassion that was shown. Not the mushy stuff but the REAL caring stuff.

Hope that does not sound mushy lol

Don't bother starting this diet until you can muster up the little bit of willpower to stay strong for 2 short weeks with NO CHEATS. It does get easier the longer you remain away from the illegal foods, but you have to be able to say "NO" on your own in the early stages.
So here's the problem with this line.....I have had MANY false starts. I thought I had the willpower at the time. i was wrong,,,,several times.
it worked kind of like those annoying gas tools. You know...you yank on the string to start it...nothing. you yank again....nothing. finally, after the upteenth time, the tool starts. That's how I got here

Great thread, and I agree that it's soooo much harder the second and third time around. My first time doing Atkins, it was very successful with a weight loss of about 60 pounds. I "fell off" the plan and it didn't take long at all to regain 30+ pounds. It seems, at least for me, that once you reintroduce a lot of carbs after so many years of ketosis/lypolysis, all those carbs seem to turn to fat faster than they ever did before.
I'm back on track now and it took several attempts before I could finish a completely clean two-week induction. The weight isn't coming off as quickly as it did the first time. If I had just stuck with it back then, I would have been at my goal long ago. I know now that this is the only way of eating that will ever work for me.
