| While there is nothing wrong with "Extended Induction", it will not teach you what you really need to know in order to continue with Atkins successfully. Been there, done that... And, really, there is no reason at this point for you to move out of induction until you are closer to your goals. If you do get bored though, please do move into the OWL rungs. That's where the later success will come from. Good luck to you! Rick |

| Thanks, Rick. I see what you mean. Could I stay on induction until I get to be, say, under 200 lbs., do you think?

| You will be adding healthy foods by going up the rungs. Like more vegis. I planned on staying on Induction also but when my weight loss slowed, begining OWL picked things up

| Lauren - wow, I wouldn't think that would be the case! Well, i'll find out more, i'm sure, once my book comes in the mail (2002 edition). I think it got sent accidentally to my old address; it's taking forever to get here!

| Just a thought, go into OWL and just take your time getting though the rungs. It really helps to stay true to the plan if you have more choices. |

| I say move to rung 1..it is just 5 more carb grams of veggies a day. It opens up more veggies options...gives you a chance to start learning about your body which will give you a great chance of success at keeping the weight off once you reach your goal.

| In the last sentence in Chapter 11 of the book, Dr. Atkins wrote that the people who have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss may benefit from staying on Induction longer than 2 weeks because it may reverse or correct the metabolic imbalances that is impeding their weight loss. What I've noticed from the experience of this board, that is true. The folks who have a moderate to low metabolic resistance seem to hit a plateau if they stay on Induction too long and they only break out of that plateau by moving to OWL. OR they create "cheat days" to "speed up" their metabolism----but I figure, if you're going to do that, you might as well move to OWL and eat those foods daily legally. So my advice is for you to look up your degree of metabolic resistance in the chart in the book and see what it is. If it's moderate to low, I would advice you to move to OWL. Anyhow, Dr. Atkins wrote that the last 5-10 pounds you lose are to be lost in Pre-Maintenance Phase.

| Thanks, Megs. Hopefully the book will arrive in today's mail and I can read up on it. BTW, I wanted to see your photos but couldn't get into the links on your signature. Motivation, you know, to see other people's weight loss! Laurie
