| I don't think it makes any difference carb-wise. So, whichever you prefer would be fine. Although I know you'll get a few responses that you should simply refrain, I have had good success with this WOE occassionally indulging in a glass of wine or two. Or a lowcarb beer. Have fun at the event!

| Good advice Marcella! This is suppose to be a "life style" change, not a prison! Becoming aware of what we eat, how we eat and why we eat together with Dr. A's science is why we succeed. Enjoy the wedding! |

| I'd refrain from the wine if possible. You want to stay clean on induction. If you cheat and then weigh yourself the next day. You'll feel bad and will want to start induction all over. IMO of course. |

| Dr. Atkins wrote that your fat burning will be delayed while your body uses the alcohol you ingested. That is why alcohol is not allowed during Induction phase. If you read the book, you will see why these 14 days are very important to how you will proceed with the remainder of your Atkins. So if you want to indulge, then be aware of that.

| I'm going to be in the same situation as you. I have my one best friends wedding next weekend and we're having a party for the bride to be tomorrow. I really wanted to partake in the festivities but honestly it's not worth messing up all the hard work that I've put in. IMHO |

| Dr A. ALSO said that if there's alcohol to burn in your body, that it will burn it first, but then go back to the fuel it had been using. So if you're already in ketosis, you should be able to burn your alcohol and then straight back to burning fat, without having to re-induct. That's given that the wine doesn't have too much sugar. I find that when I drink, although I tend to drink 80 proof liquor (its no carb I agree with your first two posters - life change, not a prison. Celebrate!! |

So don't put your faith in the stix---especially if you have drunk alcohol and your body is in the process of metabolizing it---because the stix might be showing you that you are breaking down alcohol, not fat. Again, if you choose to drink alcohol during Induction Phase, just be aware of the potential side effects and the reasons Dr. Atkins put forth in the book.

| Personally I did not drink at all during induction because I wanted to know what kind of metabolic resistance I was dealing with and a clean induction is the best way to do that. I am now in extended induction and have been for 7 or 8 weeks and find that I can drink in moderation and not stall or gain weight, I stay right in ketosis where I should be. Not everyone is like that though and for some it can stall them for as long as a week. Usually I stick with vodka or tequila although I had 2 glasses of red wine and I was fine. If you are really worried about the sugar in the wine then maybe you could have a cocktail instead? You could try a vodka and soda with a twist of lime or lemon... that would be very low carb (only the lime or lemon juice has carbs) and you would still be able to indulge. I cannot live without the occasional drink so in my opinion you should live your life and celebrate but be aware that drinking could possibly cause stalling problems for you
