Question Atkins products...

I thought the other day that i read you could eat atkins bars during induction, but today at the store they had 12-14 grams of carbs. On the front of the box it said 2 net carbs, so which one do we go by. I did not buy them, i dont want to do anything to mess me up. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks kay

You did good not buying them. Those Atkins products really should not be eaten on induction. They contain too many non induction friendly ingredients.

The carb count is also interesting as you noted. The company decided to not count the carbs from the glycerin they add in that count on the front of the package. It is a bit iffy. Not really proven that the glycerin will NOT affect the blood sugar levels.

If you read DANDR 2002 you'll see that it's really suppossed to be a whole foods lifestyle and not full of substitute food

Yah for you for listening to your inner voice! We call them frakenfood here. Remember if it isn't on the induction list you can't eat it. Print out the wallet size list in the main forum.

Here we follow the 2002 edition. So are answers are based on the boards experience with that version. No Atkins bars and shakes. The Atkins site is slanted to sell their products. Eat real food off the induction list and you will do great!

The old Atkins company site used to have a page where they discussed the possibility that the bars and shakes 'might' hinder weightloss. The solution they gave was to stop eating them if they affect your weightloss progress or give you the blood sugar symptoms described in DANDR.

Since then they have altered their focus to promoting their products in spite of the rule of induction

Most of the bars contain non-induction ingredients so you might be sabotaging your weightloss by eating them at this phase of your Atkins journey. Better to save them till you are at the relevant OWL rung where all the ingredients ARE 'legal'

Thank yall soo much! I will try my hardest not to eat the bars while doing induction! I certainly don't want to hinder my weight loss. The only thing im struggling with, is that I work out for about 2 hours daily and I find it difficult to have much energy. Not quite sure what to do for that.

I just finished the book. Even though he says he vouches for his products, this was before he died, so who knows what changes these bars and shakes went through since then. I do know for a fact that Atkins products are not on the Induction menu at all. I would go by the book and not the website this early into the program. Also it's not until pre-maintenance and maintenance that I started seeing him talk a little more about his products (and I mean a little). From what I deduced from my reading that the carb controlled snacks should supplement at times rather than replace full meals. I did read though that if it came down to a binge on carbs, he'd rather you try to think of a lo-carb substitute instead and not to overdo it because eating 5 lo carb bars is just as bad as eating the one candy bar.
