| You sound a little like me... I did the same thing you are, but I didn't focus on weight until I was sure I was over smoking. That was the BIG one for me. Congrats on quitting smoking! I quit a year ago on June 9, 2007, and so glad I did! It gets better and better over time. I took up the martial arts as an exercise - I highly recommend it for fun, exercise, variety, and mental relaxation. Y'know, I've come to think that it not a matter of willpower - just like smoking, I think it's really a matter of developing new behavior and habits to replace other ones, around whatever triggers caused the behavior in the first place. I smoked because I was addicted to nicotine, but I also I smoked to relieve stress, boredom, it was part of ritualized habits, all sorts of reasons that weren't the addiction at all. That is what smoking really is - it's a coping mechanism, so you find new ways to cope when you quit. The great part about Atkins, the later phases like OWL and pre-maintenance, is finding out what those "triggers" - which food groups/types and how many carbs - cause you to engage in behavior to cause you to crave things to gain weight! So it's really no different than quitting smoking - perhaps that's why I was so drawn to it!
