Thumbs up Today was my Rerererererererrere start day

Today was day one of my re-start day. I was down (196) then back in sept (6th)I quit smoking cold turkey and now I sadly say my re start weight is (229) I feel great since I no longer smoke and my kids & hubby are so proud of me, now I have my mind set on the weight part of my health I am feeling great about and I'm ready for this. So I hope all goes well for me and my will power stays strong. This time around I want to try and post a picture that is if I can find one (the camera and I are not friends lol) and I want to start an exercise program of some sorts. I just thought I would share. Thanks for this board everyone is great here..

Happy rerererererestart! I am in the same boat.

I also gained a lot of weight when I quit smoking but it is so worth it for your health.

Good luck x

Great to hear you have given up smoking

It sounds as if you have a good action plan in place and are prepared to get started on losing weight now

You sound a little like me... I did the same thing you are, but I didn't focus on weight until I was sure I was over smoking. That was the BIG one for me.

Congrats on quitting smoking! I quit a year ago on June 9, 2007, and so glad I did! It gets better and better over time.

I took up the martial arts as an exercise - I highly recommend it for fun, exercise, variety, and mental relaxation.

Y'know, I've come to think that it not a matter of willpower - just like smoking, I think it's really a matter of developing new behavior and habits to replace other ones, around whatever triggers caused the behavior in the first place. I smoked because I was addicted to nicotine, but I also I smoked to relieve stress, boredom, it was part of ritualized habits, all sorts of reasons that weren't the addiction at all. That is what smoking really is - it's a coping mechanism, so you find new ways to cope when you quit.

The great part about Atkins, the later phases like OWL and pre-maintenance, is finding out what those "triggers" - which food groups/types and how many carbs - cause you to engage in behavior to cause you to crave things to gain weight! So it's really no different than quitting smoking - perhaps that's why I was so drawn to it!
