| Have you seen this thread about how losing weight is not ever a steady loss http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ot-linear.html (Weight loss is not linear) The 'average' loss to be expected is said to be between 5% and 10% of the total amount we hope to lose, so let us know how much you are aiming at. This loss is over the whole 14 days of induciton, so wait till your 15th day and see how you did overall before changing your menu too radically. The chart in DANDR will help you work out what your likely resistance to weightloss is. Without knowing what you are eating no-one can advise you on tweaking your food choices - we do have a special forum called 'review my menu' where you can list all the food you are eating including amounts and let others see if they can spot anything you should change.

| I started off being 120lbs and then I went down to 114 and now I am 117.. i want to be at 105 but it really seems impossible no matter what diet I am doing. I have the biggest sweet tooth and I am in pastry school right now to be a pastry chef and we are making chocolates On monday and I was wondering when we are allowed to eat it? Also, if we accidentally ate something we weren't supposed to one day, is it ok if we just go back on track the next? |

Ditto to what Elizellen said. Don't weight yourself every day and keep in mind you won't lose weight every day. Yes, sometimes you will gain even though everything you do is right, but overall you will lose. You lost 3 lbs, so be happy for those.

| I am 5'1... I also had a few more questions. What happens if you do not include fat in your diet? I know if you eat 2 cups of salad and then 1 cup of broc or whatever is acceptable for one days worth of carbs, but these do not add up to at leas 15 g of carbs? Lastly, I was wondering if I could just eat all healthy protein like grilled chicken, salmon, and turkey instead of eating burgers with bacon and cheese? Will these healthy ways mess up the atkins diet for me? |

No one says you have to eat burgers with bacon and cheese. I haven't eaten burgers and bacon in ages, and the cheese is restricted to max. 4 oz per day during induction and rung 1 anyway. This is the most common misconception about Atkins. People imagine you have to guzzle jars of fat when following this woe. But adding 1 tablespoon of olive oil on your salad, choosing full fat cheese, chicken with skin on, fatty fish or avocado easily allow one to put the fat intake at 65%. You wrote "all healthy protein". I don't understand why you think protein is healthy, while fat is not. From your questions I understand you don't believe Atkins to be a healthy way of eating, but just a diet that will help you shed away some pounds in no time. You know the jokes from Radio Yerevan? Here's one. Quote:
Regarding your last question, Quote:
If you want to do Atkins, you must play by the rules. High fat intake is one of them.

| well this sounds alot like the problem i've been having for about 3 months now. i started off at about 133, went down to 125, then kept gaining and losing a few pounds. so now im about 128. what worked for me for a bit was driking alot more water, coz it seems like i've been having alot of sodium, but not enough water, so i ended up retaining water. and recently i just started to excersice, and i really love it. the scale isnt moving much either, but i dont let that get to me, and i stoped weighing my self so often. the main thing is u will feel better about ur self, and u might see physical changes, but not neccisarly changes in numbers. think of it as a healthy living style, and i promise you, you will see huge difference in ur sleeping, ur energy level, physical strength, eating habbits, and alot more. oh and one more thing, someone once said to me, that its twice as hard for the smaller people to lose weight. and ur way smaller than iam.....so...dont count on it all going away fast. good luck and happy low carbing

Additionally, it's the fat that keeps your appetite in check between meals. That's because fat takes longer to digest than protein or carbs. So you feel fuller longer. Quote:
Dr. Atkins wrote in the book that the majority of your daily carbs should come from vegetables. So if you are eating 10 net carbs daily, at least 6 of those carbs should be from veggies, not cream, cheese, eggs, sweetener, etc. Quote:
Atkins is a very healthy way of eating: minimally processed and refined foods, no trans/hydrogenated oils, plenty of vegetables, and natural proteins. What's unhealthy is the pastry you are learning to make in school since it's basically alot of refined flour and alot of refined sugar.

| As a culinary school graduate, i think you will have issues with your chefs trying to eat a certain way while in school. Especially pastry school. I have stopped pastry work because it just isn't possible for me to do it and eat the way I have chosen. I wish you all the best, but it will be tough to be surrounded by by carbs all day in a pastry program and try to not taste anything. I gained about 50 pounds in school. It was a rough time for me!!!!

| In re-reading your posts it looks like you haven't read the Atkin's book. You can't do the diet if you don't know what it is. You really need to read it. Also, I don't want to sound negative, but a pastry chef doing Atkins is asking for trouble. If you "cheat" and you are eating fatty foods, but aren't in ketosis, then wow, you are really asking for weight gain.
