You can make your own protein shakes that will be better than anything in a can. Just use Whey powder and then add other Atkins friendly ingredients depending on what rung you are on. I really do not trust anything pre-made in a can, the ingredients list is usually full of words I cannot pronounce. The first time I did Atkins, my most successful time by the way, I got sick of eggs and started making chocolate peanut butter protein shakes. They were awesome. But you need to be on the legume rung before you can try that one.

Trader Joe's has it, as do most health food type stores. I am sure Whole Foods would have it as well. Maybe even a GNC but I do not know about that store. I avoid those because they are a total rip off. But in a pinch maybe.

GNC does have it, about 500 varieties.

As you surmised, the shakes would be 'legal' once you reach the OWL rung that contains all the ingredients - rung 2 for milk products and rung 6 for soy products.

But if you do decide to add shakes to your menus just watch the ratios of your foods - as Atkins is not really a high protein way of eating, so you probably will need to add more fats to any commercial protein shakes to avoid overdosing onprotein. Remember that Dr Atkins told us that excess protein will convert to glucose (aka sugar) in our bodies.
