Default ketosis questions

i have been on the diet for for a little over a week now and was just wondering what color the ketosis strips should be. i took one and it was light pink (small amount) my typical meals are 3 egg whites in the morning, tuna or baked chicken breast for lunch and grilled chicken with 3 cups of salad for dinner.
does my ketosis need to be hirer or am i still burning the most amount of fat that i can be?
thanks!!

The colour of the stick - light or dark - doesn't matter*... bottom line is you're in ketosis and burning fat. Here's the * = as I understand it, if it's darker it often means that you're dehydrated and need to drink more water to flush things. So you're doing fine if it's just pink!

Question... why are you removing the yolks? They're the best part of the egg - that's where the nutrients are. Please don't worry about cholesteral and stuff. Try 2 full eggs scrambled with cheese. Or have some meat with your eggs.

Also... why not bring some of your veggies into your lunch meal?
And do what you can to bring some variety into your plan. I know you're sharing a "what I generally eat" and not a "what I always eat" menu, but the need for variety jumped out at me when I read what you'd written.

How are you feeling after a week on plan?
Energy up? Losing a few pounds?
Keep up the good work!!

MORE FAT MORE FAT MORE FAT!!!
mmmmm, delicious fat!!!

in other words, add some fat to your meals and you are on like donkey kong.
for instance, dinner for me was 3 whole egg omelette with cheese and chorizo sausage and 3 sausage patties.

oh yeah! It was the slam!!!!

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tix-color.html (Questions about ketostix color)

Skinny, I lost 20 lbs in induction and my sticks never went higher than "trace". If you are losing weight or inches, don't worry about the sticks. A deeper color doesn't necessarily mean you are in deeper ketosis, it could mean you aren't getting enough water or vice versa.

thank you all sooo much! first week in and i'm down 8 pounds!
i usually have olive oil on my salad plus cheese (i always eat my 3-4 oz) should i be having more fat than that???
i guess i should keep the yolk, i guess its a habit from other diets that i have tried before! With the veggies i try and wait til dinner ebcause that is when i am the most hungry so if i have 3 cups of salad i feel more full...should i change that up???

My sticks aren't turning either and I have been on induction for over a month now and losing centimeters. It is frustrating and sometimes hard to keep faith though, because unlike my first time round I havn't had any symptoms like smelly breath or an energy lull in the beginning. I just feel normal. But I am pretty sure I am in Ketosis.

Mmm and your meals sound delish keep it up!

It sounds like you're doing well! Congrats on the 8 pounds down!!

My caution - keep your menu interesting or, even though you may not be physically craving something, the next thing you know you're bored and looking for a fix.

Do keep the yolk in your egg - and don't be afraid of certain fats. Have some bacon with your breaky! Yummy!

Don't be afraid of salad dressings (i.e., you don't have to have just EVOO on your salad - of course if you like it that way, who am I to say don't 'cause that's totally fine ). I use store bought dressings all the time... just be sure to check the label. I love a Caesar dressing made by Renee's, and Kraft Signature has some dressings that just rock (my fave right now is Roasted Red Pepper with Parm. Delish!) - and only 2 carbs per serving. Great source for the fats we all need in our diet. My personal rule for salad dressings - no more then 2 carbs.

My suggestion that you have veggies at lunch (and/or breakfast) is simply about keeping things interesting. You should find that - as you progress on the plan - your appetite will lessen. You may find that a 3 cup salad at one sitting is too much. If it comes to that, definitely be sure to get veggies in at other meals/snacks 'cause they're important!

So... keep things interesting... take a look at the recipes that people are posting here on the forum... or search through some of the suggested recipe sites. Eating low carb doesn't have to be boring!

Keep up the good work!!

fat should be about 65% of your calories, 30 from protein and about 5% from carbs.

so, yes, fat is your friend. This isn't a high protein diet, it's a low carb one.
fat keeps you from getting hungry too!

walgreens, cvs, rite aid, they all are about the same price.
just go to the pharmacy counter and ask, they usually have them behind the counter (high theft item) and you don't need a prescription.
