Default Celery...Uh oh!

Okay I have a question...according to atkins one celery stalk is worth 0.8 net carbs however fitday is telling me that COOKED celery is 6.3carbs for three stalks. I had three stalks cooked in a little bit of vegetable oil..is me cooking the celery increasing the carbs? I'm quite confused!!

Also about the fat intake should we worry about consuming too much fat still like a normal diet..?

thanks

No, cooking a food does not increase its carb count, although it might shrink its volume (e.g. 1 cup of cooked spinach is much more than 1 cup of loosely packed raw spinach).

Going back to celery... The reason Fitday shows that huge number of carbs for "Celery, cooked" is that it assumes you are using a standard recipe. At our university canteen for example, they add broth and maple syrup to it. But if you are cooking a meal yourself, just enter separately the raw ingredients you are using.

I always use raw with Fitday. Sometimes their cooked things really are spacy.

I never did Elizellen maybe it has a high natual sugar content or something! but even on that great list ( sorry I can't remember who did it) with foods listed & colour coded for all stages of Atkins, 1 cup ( 160g) of Onion came out at 13 grams so I guess they are just naturally high in carbs. Shame because I love onion

Yes onions are carby. On induction I used green onions to get the carb count down.

Thumbs up Re: Celery...Uh oh!

Along with what Liv suggest. Leeks are another low glycemic/low carb choice along with the green onion.
