Default Question about Net Carbs in the Atkins Bars

Hello. I have a question about net carbs. I know you calculate them by taking the total Carbs-Fiber to = net carbs, but on the atkins bar (Peanut Fudge Granola Bar) the front says 2 net carbs and the count on the back is :

Carbs 17g
Dietary Fiber 9g
Sugars 1g
Sugar Alcohols 0g
Protein 16g

I am LOST...any help would be greatly appreciated

I have noticed this and it didn't make any sense to me either? I even looked through my book again to see if I missed anything? I am glad I am not the only one confused on this!

it is because they are pure evil, sold to make money, not to aid in the diet.

I avoid them totally. Sugar alcohols kill my guts and they affect my blood sugar, so I would have to count them as the full 17g.

If you know 100% that you don't process sugar alcohols, then you might be able to eat them, but they are nothing but processed chemical crap.

Dr. A sold his name before he died to a company that makes them, they really have no business being eaten by anyone or anything.

I was vey confused about this when I started too. I'd never heard of sugar alcohols before starting Atkins. What I understand from reading other posts here is that in addition to fiber, the Atkins bars also subtract sugar alchohols from the net carb count, and that you should only really do this if your body does not process the sugar alchohol - with the way to find this out being whether or not it upsets your digestion - if it does you get diarreah. So either you feel bad, or you have a lot of carbs to count. In addition, you have to make sure you can eat all the ingredients at the rung you are on and the bars may not fit within Induction b/c of the ingredients. After reading all this, I've just avoided them myself. THere are other posts here somewhere that may explain it better - but this is what I remember. Hope it helps

I would count that bar as 8 carbs, not 2 net. Sugar alcohols should be counted as sugar as they very often have the same effect on the body as pure sugar. Actually, sugar is natural so it's probably better for you
