Default I'm not testing positive for ketones

I've been on the atkins diet before and lost 40 pounds in 4-5 months, went from a size 12 to a 4. So now i'm back up to a 12, well almost 14 and so it's atkins diet again. My problem is i'm not going into ketonesis and i'm wondering why, here is what i eat in a day:
1 can of vienna sausages
1 hot link
3-4 eggs
1-2 atkins snack bars
1-2 sticks of beef jerky

i know the vienna sausages has about 7 carbs a can and the hot links about the same, the beef jerky i buy says it only has 1 carb per serving so i should be right at 20 carbs, i'm guessing i should probably find some snacks that have less carbs, does anyone have any ideas?

I'm still pretty new to this too, esp. these ketone strips..but it looks like you're not eating enough fat or veggies. The fiber from veggies is REALLY important, and in the book it says that this isn't really a 'high protein' diet, it's really a high-fat diet--so you need those fats to get going.
I'm having the opposite problem, my ketone strips are in the mid to high range all the time, but i haven't lost in almost a week and my body doesn't seem to be getting any smaller :-$

Just keep with it and follow the book with what you can eat...you should being to see results...

First off, good for you wendy for taking control again. As for the menu you posted I'm seeing some big issues that would certainly keep you out of ketosis. 1. Where are your veggies?? These are an important part of this diet and though they contain carbs, these are the good carbs you should and NEED to be eating 2. Those atkins bars can be the kiss of death (they always took me immediately out of ketosis) and if they are ever used I believe it should be very limited and much later on in the program such as maintainance... i can never eat these as they have caused me cravings and weight gain 3. I'd look for hidden carbs in your beef jerkey, sausage, and hot link, oftentimes these can contain sugar.

I'm interested to know what phase you are in, because if you are just beginning and in induction this is certainly not an induction friendly menu. I suggest reading the book (again if you already have) and again, I can not stress enough the importance of those veggies!!!!! Hope this helps! Good luck!!!

Hi Wendy,
Where are your vegetables? You should be eating 3 cups a day. You're supose to be getting the majority of your allowed 20 net carbs a day from veggies.....not meat. I'm seeing the majority of your intake of food, is processed food. Dr. Atkins intended you to eat fresh wholesome food, not processed food. The only fresh food I see there are eggs.
Those Atkins bars are not on the acceptable food list for Induction. Dr. Atkins intended them to only be eaten in emergencies.
You're allowed 3-4 ounces of cheese a day. 3 oz of cream or one ounce of sour cream.
Check food ingrediants for added sugar. Did you check ingrediants on the jerky? It may have sugar in it.
Do you have DANDR 2002? Refer to it often to help guide you through out your journey.
Add some veggies, drop the Atkins bars and read lables for added sugars. That will help you get into ketosis.
Sincerely, Sherri

I think the ladies covered up pretty much everything, but keep in mind that canned meat and sausages use starch and sugar as preservatives.. Sugar is one of the best preservatives there is, and is usually hidden..
Plus, as already said eat your veggies..remember, there is a difference between the total carbs we take, and the ones we actually process in our bodies.. do not make your whole 20 carbs - "sugar" carbs ok?
And add a bit more fat in there.. use butter, mayo or olive oil. it seems to me you are not getting enough of it either..
