Default A question about diet soda

Hi Everyone,

I started Induction on Monday, I have lost 4lbs so far. I know your not really allowed to have diet soda because it slows down weight loss, but what about Pepsi one it is made with Splenda. Can I drink this? Thank you

Hi.

Beverages that do not contain sugar (or any forms of sugar) are okay to drink. If they contain a sweetener, Dr. Atkin's preference was Splenda, but he also allowed saccharin, acesulfame-K and stevia as sweeteners. Dr. Atkins said to avoid aspartame because it stopped or slowed weight loss in some people. Since Induction is a very important time, you want to avoid anything that can potentially stop or slow your weight loss.

These beverages do not count towards your daily water requirement.

I think Pepsi One contains aspartame and acesulfame-K. So the aspartame component knocks it out of Atkins contention.

Yes, you can have Pepsi One, as long as you count it according to your alloted sweeteners for the day. :yes

(It is made with Splenda)

Yes, it contains caffeine. So, it's a no-go on Atkins.

Be careful both Pepsi one and C2 by Coke are 1/2 sugar, half splenda. It hasn't changed here yet.

It is so annoying that we still have to read labels before consuming even stuff with large 'Made with Splenda' labels :yikes

Wow, I live off of Crystal Light and never took into consideration the aspartame. Or that it would affect my diet like that. Makes total, sense I am die hard when it comes to induction and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I wasn't losing. Dang something so small could just put me at a stand still. I have read the book many times, but for someone to point it out to me makes it so much easier. I am in day 3 of induction ( had the stomach flu and was forced to eat crackers by my husband), so I started over. Thanks for the information, this forum has been so helpful to me. Which book is your bible? Is there a new one that maybe I don't have? Good bye crystal light! LOL
