Default Why no nuts on induction

Would someone please explain to me why we can't eat nuts during Induction? What if I keep them within my 20g limit? I promise I'll eat all my veges too

Thanks all!

Default Re: Why no nuts on induction

There is a section in the book about it. I know it is very easy to overeat the nuts.

Cool Re: Why no nuts on induction

Txs ceemarie. I agree - they're easy to over-eat. I measure out an ounce and no more and am aware of the carb content and factor it into my 20g/day induction. I just wondered if there was some other 'biochemical' reason for their being banned on induction.

If you are eating nuts you are not on induction. Like ceemarie says it is a problem food and it is better to live with out it for some weeks then later introduce it so you can judge whether you have a reaction to it. Some will stall with nuts. So do not eat them in induction. Use the induction to establish your baseline then add stuff.

Induction is like boot camp for Atkins. This phase assures that 99% of people doing induction get into lipolysis. Then you climb the ladder and add things to find out what foods work and DONT WORK for you. I found out that berries DO NOT work for me, but I am unaffected by alcohol. You should fly up OWL quickly. Nuts are just around the corner. Remember, induction is only two weeks. I think that you can hold off. Good luck!

the other thing with nuts is the mold factor.

nuts are covered with mold. Some people react to it negatively (same with aged cheeses) and it is another reason they are limited on induction. Mold can cause weight loss stalls on any plan.

By limiting foolds with molds, this gives your body a chance to catch up and get the balance back in the gut. It ties in with the probable yeast over growth overweight people tend to have.

Thanks all. I'm going to test drive the nuts and see how I go. I'm a pretty healthy person with no allergies or health problems - pretty normal. I find the nuts are good for a snack at work between my lunch and dinner around 3pm - and I only have 1oz. I measure them out and put in a baggie each morning. I need to find some other good snacks besides cheese. I do eggs in the morning a hundred different ways, maybe a big tuna salad and 6-8oz of steamed cauliflower drizzled with olive oil for lunch and perhaps chicken and more veges or 2 cups salad and mayo for dinner. I note that firm tofu only has about 3g of carbs per serve so may experiment with that. I've never tried low carb bread - will have to investigate my local supermarket or see what's available online. I was so used to eating my protein pancakes (fat free ricotta, egg whites, oats, vanilla, splenda) on my previous eating program and I miss them! maybe I can whip something up without the oats (use low carb bread crumbs and ground flax perhaps?) Anyone have any ideas? I'll report back on their success.

We follow Atkins here. So we follow the rules as best we can. I know this works when you do. It is not just about low carb. It is about getting rid of old eating habits that caused problems and it is about using the glycemic index. We start out eating foods that are very low glycemtic and then by following what Atkins called the Carbhydrate ladder we gradually add more and more glycemic food. We add them out it order and test them out as we do. Doing this I have learned things like I can eat almonds but not peanuts. I can eat grapefruit but not melon. I can eat outs but not brown rice. etc. Check out the book.

As an OWL Forum moderator, I can tell you that nuts and seeds are food intolerance problem with a great many people.

As others have stated, why experiment now? The weight you lose on Induction determines your "degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss", which in turn helps you plan the rest of your Atkins. It would be a shame if those nuts you are eating are impeding your weight loss, so when you look up your degree of metabolic resistance on Day 14, you are in the moderate-high resistance category, when you are actually in the low category.

Txs - I'll take my chances.

I'm generally a very healthy person - no food intolerances or allergies. I can understand the decision though. I'm losing so far so will keep eating my pecans
