| Yes, you are supposed to subtract fiber from total carbs. not2late explains net carbs in this sticky: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ood-links.html You should be getting most of your carbs from veggies. If, for example, you are eating 16 net carbs a day, more than 8 of them should be veggie carbs. Don't forget that Dr. Atkins said we should count each ounce of cheese as 1 net carb, although cheese has usually less than that. If you are eating your veggies, then it is OK to have only 16 carbs. It's difficult to be at a perfect 20 every day.

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource. Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"
