Default If you feel like giving up..

Please don't as after not hardly moving on the scale for what felt like ages, In the past three days out of nowhere I've dropped 4lbs which now makes 8lbs in total... in less than three weeks. and if I'm honest I was getting slightly disheartened with everything.. AS MY SCALE WAS NOT MOVING FOR LIKE 6 DAYS...but this has really given me the boost I needed to continue. So for anybody who found they weren't loosing much in the first two weeks, HANG IN THERE... it can JUST HAPPEN...

plus.. definately measure the inches as it does make a big difference..

PS - Still not exercising though as still sick, but I managed to get through last night without the Cough Syrup.

good work tumtum! hope you feel better soon! i had a very bad day yesterday on day 3 of in duction but woke up feeling a whole lot better today - so its day 4 now and i'm going to soldier on after i almost quit due to s severe bout of induction 'flu' just one thing though, my tummy seems bloated and my glands in my neck are a little swollen. could this be a sign of ketosis? i got a pink on the ketostick yesterday but it was negative today what could this mean? thanks

Thanks Budderfly and good on you for not quitting. That induction flu can be a pain in the bum, but you will start to feel so good afterwards. To be honest I'm not sure about the bloating and glands... as I've never heard of that.. (maybe one of the oldies on here can give a better explanation), it could be part and parcel of your body getting rid of all the toxins, but if anything persists, maybe just get it checked by your doctor. Is it better now, gone down or still there?
As for the ketostix.. not all people even register a colour or get to the dark bit, but if you did register pink and then went out, it could either mean you ate something hidden and naughty (double check your foods), or maybe you drank a lot of water and where very hydrated. - I realised my mayo had hidden starch.. so sometimes it can be something small.

I wouldn't worry to much about that though.. as long as you are keeping to the plan.. you should start noticing a big difference soon.

just make sure you take measurements as i normally didn't and this time I did, which was lucky as when the scale wasn't moving, I was loosing inches.

Good luck
x

thanks tumtum, i did eat alot of mayo yesterday (is it ok to slop it on or should i measure it?) i walk 2miles a day and i do drink alot of water so i'm trying not to get disheartened by the ketostick showing as 'trace' - my face is a little swollen and i have a headache, maybe its the onset of a cold? i have no idea. i'm very thrisy eventhough i drink constantly! just wondering if green tea is a good option on top of my water consumption (nice to get a hot cuppa on a cold day instead of water) also, sugarfree gum? how does that fair with atkins? i like to freshen my breath by chewing gum during the day. i haven't stepped on the scales as i have become obsessed in the past - i'm going to play it by ear and judge my success by the way my clothing fits - one of the suggestions made in the book. also i have 10-15lbs to lose, will it be slow loss for me on induction or do you think the 14day induction plan will help shift the bulk of it before i move on to long term maintainance? so many questions!! i'm sorry! as a newbie i'm very anxious to know i'm doing it right thanks x

Hiya Budderfly..
don't worry about the questions.. thats why these boards are so fab. The best link i can give you is on my blog (taken straight from the Atkins book) listing all the foods you can have on induction (chewing gum and tea is mentioned.. along with mayo), if you save it on your computer then you can always check on it during the day...

The link is below.. click on it and go into induction - acceptable foods on the right.
Hope thats more help
Wow.. 2miles a day.. thats fab.. I need to get myself up and about.. as for a cold.. I wouldn't be surprised it seems like everybody has it these days.
As for how much you have to loose, its not that much, so I would presume you may go slower.. BUT.. its hard to say as everyone is sooo different. You normally get the most weightloss in INduction and then it slows a little after that.
xx

You do need to measure it so you know how many servings of it you ate in order to work out the carbs in it

Well done on both the walking and the water

Tea without caffeine is fine in addition to your water and I think most green teas are naturally non-caffeinated - as most I have seen for sale state no caffeine. I don't like the taste of tea so sometimes I drink plain hot water if I want a hot drink.

also, sugarfree gum?
We are allowed up to 3 servings a day of sweetened food or drink, so if you choose to use one or more of them on sugarfree gum then it is fine

Good decision

It is often said that a loss of between 5% and 10% of your total hoped-for loss in the first 14 days of induction is 'normal'. For you then, anything between half a pound and 1.5 pounds would be considered 'normal' - anything above that would be excellent!

As tumtum said, don't ever feel you should not be asking questions if you are not sure about some aspect of your new way of eating (WOE). That is one of the reasons this ADBB community exists
