| Also, just for note. I normally wasn't eating much during the day pre-atkins. I would have no breakfast and maybe a cup of goldfish crackers during the day and sometimes a package of ramen noodles. I know that was extremly unhealthy...but even on the days when I only ate like 1 cup of goldfish, I wasn't hungry. Not like now.

| Hi Sweetpea, :wave It's normal to feel a little hungry during the start of the induction phase of Atkins but that's usually because people confuse cravings with hunger. You menu could use a bit of tweaking especially in adding more fat, such as olive oil dressing s on your Salads. Remember your NOT counting calories, eat until your full, that's the wonderful thing about Atkins - we can eat! Here's a few ideas to alleviate your hunger pains:

| Just to add to what Peter said.... Dr. Atkins used the word "liberally" in the medical sense: don't be hesistant to eat these foods, but only eat enough to satisfy your hunger. Satisfying your hunger doesn't mean to stuff yourself like a Thanksgiving turkey. It means that you've eaten enough, that you are no longer hungry and that you aren't stuffed. This is often the hardest thing to gage with Atkins, especially if you are a chronic overeater. It's the fat, not the protein, that staves off the hunger on this diet. Fat takes longer to digest, so you feel more satisfied (ie: not hungry) longer. Turkey is relatively lean meat. So eat your turkey with some kind of fat like cheese or mayonnaise. Be sure to eat combinations of fat/protein/carbs. So that lettuce you ate should have some kind of fat-based dressing. The other thing too is that ketosis/lipolysis is a strong diuretic. The part of your brain that controls hunger is next door to the part that controls thirst. For some people, thirst manifests as hunger. So if you are hungry between meals, drink a glass or two of water. Wait 30 minutes and see if you are still "hungry". If you are, go ahead and eat a high fat snack. ![]() By the way, please include your start date, start weight, current weight, goal weight and your height in your posts---this will enable us to answer your questions better.

| Thanks for the input. I am really good at drinking water, usually at least 120 oz per day. I know I have a problem with dressings and fats. I really don't like cheese, but I don't mind a few pieces grated. I also hate all dressings pretty much. I have never ate dressings so that will be tough to add them and I have always hated mayo as well. But I like miracle whip...go figure! I know I have to do better, it is just hard to eat things you hate. Also, Is it required to eat butter that is unsalted? I recently went and purchased a few boxes of salted butter and so I use that when I cook with butter. Is that wrong?

You can also try your hand at making egg-based sauces like Hollandaise or Bearnaise. Salt butter and unsalted butter... For baking you want to use unsalted butter because there is no standard of how much salt is in the butter. And it can interfere with the final taste of the baked product. But for cooking or eating, it really doesn't matter. For cheeses, you can try out a mild cheese, like cream cheese, mozarella or provolone and see how that is for you.

| have you tried some cream cheese rolled in your turkey slices? This is one of my most favorite snacks. Or cream cheese on celery is also very tasty. Don't be afraid to eat! The purpose of this diet is to not starve yourself. I've even heard tell of some people who had stalled somewhat and added more fat to their diet and then continued losing. So don't be afraid to have some steaks! |
