| Does he really eat that much meat in one sitting without feeling sated? I eat about half a pound of cow between lunch and dinner and feel satisfied. During induction, I always eat more, but the best way would be for him to have a regular portion size, then go back and have more, not start with 1.75lbs of it as a meal. And if you add veggies to it, it's even more food. Don't forget you're supposed to be having 2-3 cups of veggies during induction!! Topped with butter... That's a lot of food!

| I think if it takes a big steak to get him going so be it.... Once ketosis hits for him - the portion size could go down. Make sure to offer those veggies too.

| I started about the same weight as him (325 lbs). Have been on Atkins for 1 week now, and yes the hunger was horrible at first, but about 4 days in (when I got into Ketosis) my appetite decreased significantly. |

| He needs to know from the beginning that the first few days aren't going to be a picnic but if he can keep his eyes on the big picture the weight will start falling off and he'll feel so much better. Once he sees that the food tastes good and he can eat all he needs to feel full hopefully he'll come around. Good luck to both of you! BTW I know 2 people who had stomach surgery and are now doing Atkins because they started gaining their weight back. So, that's not always the answer either!! Carole

| What I love the most about your post is that you're showing him an alternative to surgery, losing weight naturally with a change in his daily diet and exercise. I'm so happy for you two! Eating right and exercise now will produce a lasting relationship and an awesome summer for the two of you! Enjoy creating new things and meeting new challenges.

| Stock the house with everything he CAN eat, and prep snacks for him. Personally, I had a HUGE and Insatiable appetite prior to going on atkins... i mean, even for my size, I could just pack it away. I told myself, this time around, if I could just get through the 1st week without cheating, I knew I could keep going. So I ate whatever I wanted, as much as I wanted, as long as it was on the list, ( I didn't eat anything with small carb count except bacon) and sure enough, by day 4 I was feeling tremendously better, plus my appetite had significantly decreased. I cooked up bacon, hot wings, boiled eggs / deviled eggs, small amount of cheese on hand (didn't want to go overboard!) and kept tons of eggs for omlets, fried eggs, etc, plus kept steak on hand as well... lol... my family looked at me like I was insane... but I made it through, and Wed is my day 14, and I am down 10lbs today... so I know it works! Great luck to you both! Danielle

| When I first started, I'd make to steaks for my meal. One I'd cover with seasonings and the other I'd cover with butter & sour cream. It didn't take long before I didn't want or need that much meat at a meal, but it was pyscologically nice to know that I could and still loose weight. I say let him eat as much as he wants. Eventually, he will reduce the amounts on his own.

| I would suggest maybe a 6 oz piece of meat for a meal but offer large snacks in between. Rather than overfill the stomach at one sitting, let him a smaller meal eat knowing that he can snack on some meat or deviled eggs or something else in an hour or so. This fills a couple of purposes: 1) you aren't keeping that stomach as stretched out and eventually that will help you feel fuller 2) you may find yourself NOT hungry after that hour and therefore not eat calories you don't need and finally 3) by eating smaller quantities more often you actually stimulate the metabolism more
