| The 12-15 carbs rule is an invention of the Atkins company. No where in the book does Dr. Atkins mention anything like this. What the book says is to eat approximately three cups of vegetables per day -- maximum 1 cup of veggies from the "other veggies" list and the rest from the "salad veggies" list. In addition, most of your carbs should come from vegetables. As long as you respect this rule, your weight loss will not be hindered.

| I am not going to write my opinion about the Atkins company/website, because that would make a very long post. How much did you lose? What are your stats (height/starting weight/goal)? When did you start Atkins? Posting a menu might also help us spot if there's anything wrong.

| The book says that the majority of our daily carbs should be from vegetables, so if you are eating a total of 20 net carbs daily, then a minimum of 11 carbs should be from veggies alone. Likewise, if you are eating a total of 10 net carbs daily, then at least 6 of those carbs should be from veggies alone. When I was on Induction, I ate about 10-12 net carbs daily, because I wasn't a heavy cream user or a processed meats eater or an artificial sweetener user. My carbs came from eggs, cheese and veg. Since I ate 2 eggs daily and 2-3 ounces of cheese daily for a total of 4-5 net carbs from egg and cheese, I ate veggies to the tune of 5-6 net carbs daily, which wasn't hard to do considering the veggie choices. See, I didn't limit myself to eating 100% lettuce salads: I ate 2 cups of the "Salad" veggies and 1 cup of the "other veggies. All of the veggies on the "salad" list can be cooked, so instead of eating lettuce, I ate sauteed mushrooms or peppers which are on the salad list and higher carb (and more nutritious) than lettuce. And I made sure I ate the 1 cup from the "other" list.

| Each year we have a couple of challenges on the board where participants are challenged to get 12-25 net carbs from their veggies if on induction or 17-30 net carbs if on OWL. If anyone is wanting to increase their veg net carbs then it might be interesting to read the threads in our Semi-annual challenges forum to see how others did it. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...al-challenges/

| We'll definitely be able to give better advice to you if you answer these questions... Also, are you "regular"? Is it around that "time of the month"? |

| height: 5 foot 3 inches weight: 10 stone 8.5 lbs goal: 8 stone 8.5 lbs Started Atkins 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Lost 4lb the first week and nothing the second week. I have been eating the atkins bars and shakes but limiting to two a day (one bar and one shake). I eat mostly meat (pork chops, steak, chicken), I have been eating veg too but limiting it. I had my period at the end of the first week. I did atkins a few years ago and the weight came off really fast... the only difference is I am eating more veg this time and the shakes and bars. Hope this helps? |

| We see this incredibly often. Those Atkins product stall a lot of people and they are not legal for induction (despite the crap the Atkins company tries to sell us). You can read more here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...have-them.html (Atkins products -- should I have them) It is not uncommon to stall after the first week of induction. The weight loss usually restarts once you move to OWL Rung 1 and add more veggies. Weight loss is not proportional to the number of net carbs you are eating, so avoiding vegetables because they have carbs will only work against you.

| I agree with Georgiana - Shakes and bars are known stallers for many people. I would ditch those, before limiting veggies. I am the one who heads up the semi-annual boardwide veggie challenges, and from experience, I usually see people break a stall (rather than cause one) by increasing non-starchy veggies. |
