I am having the worst day of cravings today. I cannot for the life of me stop thinking about ice cream. I have tried eating healthy things and distracting myself but I can't kick the urge. Please help :sadblinky

You should try the mock danish (in recipes section) super yummy and creamy. It may help you out. Drink water too. Lots! And get busy doing something. It'll pass! You can do it. :hug

Hi Susan, :wave

Cravings can be terrible I know but you have to work through it, if you don't the remorse you'll feel will be 100 times worse than the nano second of satisfaction you'll from eating the ice cream.

Drink some ice cold water....eat something wonderful and dense with the healthy fats that your body is starting to burn...a steak or eggs fried in lots of butter, some bacon, some cheese...the reason for this is even though it's not what your craving for it'll make you feel full and satisfied.

If you have ice cream in the house - throw it away, just do it!....I just the same with my cigarettes and I smoke 2 packs a day probably for longer than you've been alive. It's awful but it's a lot better than ending up with heart disease.

Listen, you've come this far...two days that took work and you want a better life right? because you deserve one and because your fed up with being fat and miserable.

So, roll up your sleeves and fight, before you know it the craving will pass. If cravings still bothers you read pages 237-239 in your copy of DANDR...and if by off and crazy chance you don't have the book?

Take that money you would have spent on ice cream and head to your nearest Barns and Nobel!!

I have faith in you - so have some in yourself, deal?

Susan, I know exactly how you feel. I just went thru this last week. Please don't give up or give in. I know how you feel about ice cream. Its because of ice cream that I can never eat it again (that is just me, not everybody); I cannot stop at one cup or bowl or anything. To me, I have to eat it all. Moderation doesn't even work for me, so I have to give it up permanently. :sadblinky

Anyways....don't eat the ice cream. i know this is hard but this is just day 2 for you and this is your food cravings yelling they want you back. Don't listen to them! For a few days, it will be rough but you can do it IF you really want to change your life. Drink water, go outside, read, avoid all tv ads with food (change channels), just try to think about the loss you will have in a few days if you stay faithful.

Point is, you need to get busy doing something and try to let the craving work itself out. it seems like forever but it will go away. The average craving lasts 13 min! That's it! If you just keep distracting yourself over and over again, you can make it! Do a hobby you always liked to do. like for me it is learning to paint; I am not good at it but it calms me and helps me not think of my cravings. I know this all sounds hollow but trust me, you can do this. Don't give in!!

I eat something salty like pickles to get rid of the cravings or eat a snack like turkey roll ups...fight the urge...you can do it and it will eventually pass

I really sppreciate all of your advise. I am going to stay the course. I am miserable right now but I know I can get past this. I have done it before, I can do it again. I am going home soon so that will make it easier. No temptation there Peter I think what is so bad is that there is a cold stone on my way home from work and the knowledge of that is what keeps this craving so strong. When I have craved other things just knowing that I would have to go out of my way and such to get the specific item keeps the craving at bay. Not to mention ice cream is my #1 evil. Only a few more days of this struggle and my cravings will subside. It will be easier.
Sorry for the ramble just trying to pump myself up to drive PAST the ColdStone. Again thanks all.

Hi Susan :wave

Now you're talkin'!

Look at this way alcoholics have to drive by liqueur stores and bars every day, some pull over and get that drink - but the ones who want to live? they drive right past.

People who aren't alcoholics don't notice liqueur stores or obsess about them, they don't have to - they don't have a problem.

Food addicts, they notice all the ice cream places and krispy creams and obsess about them and are tried by them..why? because we're addicts. People without a weight issue don't notice these things because they don;t effect their life one way or the other.

So drive right past that ice cream place - and when you get home do something wonderful for yourself, take a long hot bath and read...make a steak or something you love that's good for you - and congratulate yourself!

Default ADVICE

TRY AND FIND SOMETHING TO DO EVERYTIME U FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO CHEAT--THIS WILL OCCUPY YOUR MIND AND YOUR TIME.(EXAMPLES: EXERCISE-PUSH-UPS, SIT-UPS, STRENGTH TRAINING, ETC)

ASK YOURSELF--IS CHEATING REALLY WORTH ME SABOTAGING MY PROGRESS FO FAR?

NOT HAVING THIS ONE CARB-FILLED SOMETHING NOW MEANS BIG WEIGHTLOSS/HEALTH REWARDS LATER!

DRINK LOTS OF WATER-SOMETIMES YOUR BODY IS JUST THIRSTY!
