| Dr. Atkins wrote in DANDR 2002 that caffeine destabilizes one's blood sugar levels. Initially, it will cause a drop in blood sugar, which is what leads to hunger or cravings. Simultaneously, caffeine also stimulates the central nervous system, thus triggering the release of stress hormones. After this triggering, blood sugar levels will return to normal. The strength of the cravings, their duration and one's ability to resist them, varies from person to person. Coffee or diet sodas, like any other food/drink, may also cause a stall in one's weight loss. To go by the book and be on the safe side, you should avoid caffeine during the first two weeks of induction. Instead, you can have decaf. Once you reach OWL, you can try adding it back and see if it affects your weight loss.

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | Thanks for the advice, Georgiana! I'm going to cut it out since I just started induction! I am a caffeine junkie- I had 4 cups today... I'll for sure have a headache tomorrow thanks to withdrawal!

| I have been surprised how easy it was for me to cut out the caffeine. I was used to drinking about 4 diet pepsi and 3 cups of coffee a day. I was tired for the first 2 days but did not suffer from headaches because I drank enough water and took advil every 8 hours. Good luck! |

| Interesting! I'm on Spring Break, so I've been waking up late these days. I almost sleep walked over to the coffee pot out of habit this morning!!! I'm sticking with herbal teas from now on
