Default Starting today - type II diabetes & other health issues

Thank you all for this great website!

I've spent a few hours reading through it all again (I joined a couple of years ago, but never followed through with the plan).

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes 12/07 - haven't managed to lose any weight since then (thank you SO much ADA diet...sigh). I also have a sluggish thyroid (hypothyroidism) and PCOS. So...lots going against me.

My new doc wants me to do a strict vegan diet, but that's NOT for me, so I decided that I will try - no DO! - Atkins instead.

So...I started this morning. Went grocery shopping last night in preparation for it...did not buy much (it's been a few years since I read the book, so I couldn't remember it all!). But enough to get me through a few days. If nothing else, I'll 'survive' on eggs...we have 9 laying hens!

Anyway - just wanted to say 'hi' and tell y'all a bit about myself. I look forward to getting to know you all.

I'll try to add a photo to my profile sometime today.

Hi Crystal,
Welcome to ADBB and back to Atkins.
I "HAD " Type-2 Diabetes untill Atkins woe reversed it 47 days into it. Also, I have a slow thyroid (hypothyroidism) and managed to lose weight. As long as you keep on top of getting lab done and having the correct dose of medication on board, you will lose your weight.
Make sure to go to the 14 day induction thread and read all the Stickys there. That will help you stay the course as well.
Join some challenges and post often. A great way to meet people and make new friends.
We also have a Thyroid and Diabetes thread here with great information. A great read!

Lucky you to have hens! I love eating fresh eggs when I visit my grandparents. Don't forget to eat your veggies though. You need 3 cups per day -- maximum 1 from the "Other Vegetables" list and the rest from the "Salad Vegetables" list.

Strict vegan? Is this doctor nuts? Since this is a new doctor, maybe you are not too attached to him/her--you won't mind looking for a new one. One that understands that diabetes and POCOS respond the best to low carb, fats and quality protein. The best and most healthy protein comes from animal sources. Your sluggish thyroid will slow down even more if you get your protein from soy.
