Question day 8,struggling...help please.

ok there are a couple of things i need help with:

1st of all, i'm wondering if i am even going into ketosis,or if its purey water i'm losing. i cant buy the sticks because you cant buy them here in the uk anymore without a prescription.i do have bad breath,but no bad taste.i am thirsty alot,and drink lots of water daily.today i have a slight like itch in my throat,but its very slight,doesnt hurt or anything. i found out i'm not eating enough fat!!

i'm already on day 8,and if i've not been doing it right i'm gonna be so upset.i just find it so hard to eat high fat.i cant eat butter or cream.so i've been eating about 2oz of cheddar cheese.and from yesterday i've been eating more beef instead of chicken,as the fat content is way higher in beef.
so? how can i tell if i am in ketosis?

2nd of all, I AM CRAVING SOME ICE COLD ORANGE JUICE!!! its terrible,i cant stop thinking about ice cold juice,and grapes.
i was even thinking of coming off the diet as i'm happy so far with what i've ost, but then i was thinking what if i've only lost water and it will come straight back after eating a couple of fruit salads or something.

HELP ME PLEEEEEEASE

If you're happy with what you've lost.....DON'T eat a couple fruit salads!! You're right about water loss. In the beginning, you lose a lot of water while your new way of eating flushes your system. Hang in there! Don't consume fruit. Stay on track! Your loss so far is awesome and the more you shed, the faster you'll get to melting the fat. That's probably already started for you. If you're willing to go to OWL after 14 days of induction, you'll be even closer to fruit consumption again but NOT orange juice. I think I'd pass out if I drank that!! Carb and sugar overload!! Can't go there but I enjoy eating strawberries and blueberries several times per week. They're a little sweet and low in calories. You'll get to that rung (4) but you're not there yet and it's imporant to do induction cleanly and properly! Don't cheat yourself. Why would you want to have to start over? I'm not at all worried you aren't in ketosis based on your loss to date alone. You're doing great!! Keep doing it right!!

awww thankyou so much. ok i'll keep going

its just so annoying that we cant buy the ketosticks here without a prescription...damn it grrrrrr

i think thats whats getting to me the most, not knowing at all if i'm doing things right.because i found out my fat intake isnt half as high as it should be,and someone on here said that not enough fat wont lead to ketosis,i'm just getting frustrated. its the not knowing where my bodys at.

but like i said,i'm gonna keep going.any more advice would be much appreciated.

Well, if that made you feel better, this should make you feel GREAT!!! I've had days upon WEEKS of purple ketostix but no movement on the scale. If you have to pick between the two, um, you're gettin the better result. There's no glory in peeing on a stick, trust me. If you're that upset about not having them, you'd be driving yourself NUTS about which color they're registering!! Who needs that? No one!! The results you want are:

Do you feel soooo much better, overall?
Do you have more energy?
Are you losing pounds?
Are you losing inches?

Read, read, read the board! Search the threads for ketostix....spelled differently all through different threads. It's not a magic stick and it causes more trouble than good most of the time! ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS go with pounds lost, inches lost and losing sizes in clothes. No one will ever say to you, "Good morning, what color was your pee stick today?" However, they will say, "Wow! You're really losing weight aren't you?"

Looooool hahahahaha yeah you're actually right
well i feel alot better than i did this morning now and i've found out how to add extra fat to my diet without feeling sicky.i'm just adding loads of olive oil to my food.i love olive oil,and i love chicken.and the 2 together i find really tasty dont worry i am having my veg too with that.

olive oil is fine right??

yay i feel so much better

Superjane, so glad you stuck it out!

Yes, olive oil is wonderful on Atkins!!!!

I also have been in ketosis since I started, and have only lost 15 pounds in three months. So if you are losing, that's MUCH better than turning a stick purple!

If you are eating what you are supposed to be eating and not cheating, I can almost guarantee you that you are in ketosis!
