| Yes... and no. During Induction, you should aim for 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% protein, where these percentages are calculated from the total calories. Also, if you gorge on fat, your calories will be very high. Now Dr. Atkins wrote that we do not need to count calories, but calories are still important. Yes, you can eat a few hundred more than on low fat/calorie diets, but eat 4000 calories per day and you will not lose weight or you may even gain. To increase your fat percentage to 65%, you don't have to eat a large quantity of fat, because 1 g of fat has 9 calories, while protein and carbohydrates only have 4 calories/g. During the first days of Induction, until you get into ketosis, you may be quite hungry. Don't worry about it and eat as much as you need to satisfy your hunger. Dr. Atkins wrote that we should eat whenever hungry or whenever we went 6 hours without eating. However, he also wrote that we should not stuff ourselves with food, but just eat enough to feel satisfied. For many of us, figuring out when we should stop eating is not very easy -- it's something you'll learn along your Atkins journey. After the first days, once you get into ketosis, your appetite will be suppressed and the initial hunger should disappear. At this point you will have to make sure you are eating enough, so you may have to spread your food into more meals or plan your menus the day before... at least until you get the hang of this way of eating.

| Well, Dr Atkins didnt say we could eat as much as we want So eat if you are hungry and till no longer hungry, keep under 20 net carbs per day with 'most' of your carbs coming from your veggies and I am sure you will not go far wrong. Atkins is a high fat/medium protein/low carb way of eating, so we aim at about 65% fat/30% proetin/5% carbs on induction. You can work your percentages out easily if you use one of the free online websites for tracking food like www.fitday.com and enter in all the food you eat each day. I did induction for 6 months or so before discovering the recommended ratios and fitday, but when I entered in a few days menus which I had worked out according to the rules in the 'manual' (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 aka DANDR 2002) I discovered that I had achieved those percentages anyway.

And don't worry if a question was asked before. Just go ahead and ask, there's always someone online to try answering it.

| Yes, I try and stay at 20 carbs a day. So, if you are to have 65%fat per day you just divided that with how many meals you eat? |

| I'm having a hard time getting enough fat in. I am tracking all my meals on FitDay and have been around 61-58% fat, and 35-33% protein and was just wondering how others fit in more. I know the percentages are 65-30-5, and it can flucuate, but am I doing ok? |

| Maybe you could get some ideas from the thread called 'how much fat do I need to eat' at the top of this forum? http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-need-eat.html (How much fat do I need to eat?)
